Flight Case

[ QUOTE ]
Oh yeah, you're going to be a "Redbird" fairly soon, eh?

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, my mom surprised me with tickets to the Redbirds game the other night. Nice stadium. The old one (Tim McCarver Stadium) was in the Ghett-oh and should've been condemned.

Most of those are stickers in honor or the UA and AA flights that were involed in 9/11. I had one of the site for a few months.

The new stadium absolutely rocks. And the Redbirds are a phenomenal team.

Those are all the UA/AA 9/11 stickers, dood.

Muffin Man indeed.

I wasn't sure if thats what they were, because Doug wasn't very specific in his reply. But You have to agree in the picture those stickers look either like women or the muffin Man.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Look at the Similarities. Maybe I'm going nuts or something. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buck.gif

I put my case on a scale last year. It weighed 43 pounds.

Yes, pounds.

For my as a Mesa CRJ Capt, I need: 1 company manual, 2 RJ manuals, flashlight, glasses, and about 3 full binders worth of Jepps. How much of that do we actually use? Little, but like the FARs say, you have to have it available.

THREE full Jepp binders??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Why so much? That's gotta suck come update time.

Updates suck. Take all damned day.

Luckily, I've just got two which covers the US and Canada. but Bog's got to add in a lot of the smaller airports and Mexico.

I've got two Jepp binders in my flight case, a telex 5x5 headset as seen in pix.jetcareers.com and "volume 2" of some manual (which is no more than 6 oz).

We keep the POM and PRM in the cockpit, including the 2nd tier diversionary airports in a thing called a 'brick'.

No use carrying around Bismark, ND in your Jepps if the only time you'll use it is an extreme emergency, where it's kept in the cubby in the cockpit.

Now, my bag is nice 'n light and has plenty of space for my hat ("shako" if you're a band geek), and whatever other safety-related contraband I'd like to bring along.

My airline hasn't advanced to catch up to Doug's, so we have to drag everything around. Rumor has it things will change, but I'm doubtful it'll be in my lifetime.

Hmph. Until recently I kept the updated Jepps for the Eastern US for my personal use. FOUR full binders. Yeah, lets talk about sucky updates......

The update hassle alone makes NOS charts a lot easier to put up with. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Well, for example, we only carry PHX and TUS in Arizona. Only carry ABQ in New Mexico, LAS and RNO in Nevada....

My buddy was showing off all his swag from Mesa groundschool. I saw the number of Jepp binders, and I was like "Dude! You're gonna need help lugging all this stuff to and from the airport!"

[ QUOTE ]
Just curious, why'd you get the one on wheels? Where are you going to put it?

[/ QUOTE ]
Why wouldn't you get one on wheels? Wheels are the BEST! Who the heck want's to lug all that crap around and get back problems??? I already moved bags for 16 years. Been there, done that. At a regional a lot of times you don't need to tote around your overnight bag so there is nothing to roll the flightbag on and you are lugging it around all day. I bought my wheeled case on Ebay for $12 and it's awesome. I don't think I'd ever get one without wheels after having the convenience. It's just too darn handy. Where do you put it? In the cockpit, where else?

[ QUOTE ]
So, what all do airline pilots carry in their flight cases? I here you guys have a bunch of required items.

[/ QUOTE ]
1 Emergency proceedures manual (red book)
1 Company proceedures manual
M-Z Jepps for the F/O, plus any Jepps pertaining to the cities/route flown
A headset
A few spare W&B manifests and TOLD cards

We use the flashlight onboard and the Capt carries A-L of the Jepps, so that makes things lighter and is one less binder to free up some room. I also put all my CA cities in a 1" Jepp binder and that's basically the only book I ever take out. The rest just sit there, unless a warning light goes off. :O)
