Flight Case

Eh, "where are you going to put it?" is a legit question--some cockpits (like the CRJ) have a fairly tight space designed for them, and one with wheels might not fit.

I gotta keep it simple, have no choice. Simple pubs bag with one checklist, one local area in-flight guide, an H-5/6, H-3/4, L-3/4, Hi-Southwest IAP book, a Flight Information Handbook, an IFR and a VFR Supp, ABQ/ELP/PHX sectionals, L-3/4, and some 1:250,000 and 1:50,000 maps of the range and local flying areas.

Pubs-wise, making the Atlantic crossings to the middle east is a real pain in the a$$

There is no exterior framework or bulky 'wheel pants' on my model like others. They are almost hidden. Yes, it always helps to get the measurements for the a/c before buying a bag. Make sure the bag measurements are exterior too. One guy had the measurements on his bag from Sportys and the bag still didn't fit. Turns out they were interior dimensions not exterior!

Who the heck want's to lug all that crap around and get back problems??? At a regional a lot of times you don't need to tote around your overnight bag so there is nothing to roll the flightbag on and you are lugging it around all day. Where do you put it? In the cockpit, where else?

On the rare occasion that I have a day trip, I'll lug all 50#s of flight case around; I need the exercise. The "where" has been covered, as mentioned my question referred to the fact that the ERJ and CRJ won't accept most wheeled bags. If I ever get so old that I can't drag it around, the collapsable wheels will do the trick just fine.

I'd respond to that one but Doug would delete it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I put a pic of the inside of my new case on my page. With both CRJ manuals (CR2 and CR7/9) that b@stard is heavy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

Yeah, but you get to carry a 'piece', Mike! That means a two week "vacation" for the rest of us.

Funny you mention. Our survival vests we flew with, they've got the pistol holster sewn on the left forward portion of the vest, so the butt of the gun was resting over the bottom of your kneeboard on your left thigh. Dumbest place to locate it. Before we deployed, I had the holster removed from my vest, and bought/modifed my own shoulder holster rig that went over the vest, and under the parachute harness. The pistol now was secured in it's holster muzzle down under my left arm, and on the right side, I had a bowie knife hanging under my right arm, with 10 mag pouches horizintally attached on the rig strap that went up the front right side of my vest to my shoulder.

All I needed to complete the set was two crossed-bandoleers of bullets in an "X" shape over my survival vest, so I could resemble a /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bandit.gif

Didn't care for the M9 Beretta....preferred the .357 Mk I Desert Eagle......the same weapon you need to be carrying, Doug. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Probably handled elsewhere, but curious:

I thought I'd heard that some airline pilots were carrying handguns. Is this true, and if so, how do you get 'selected' to carry one?

I'm a big believer in guns, but I think it would be an enormous hassle to have to carry one.

Guns in the cockpit ... yeah let's not open that can of worms. Personally I like jetBlue's idea of a real hefty door and a video cam for the back. I've been on many flights where that passenger cam could have come in handy, if ya know what I mean. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

That would liven up the Pix From The Road, wouldn't it?

I saw some 'bow chicka bow bow' flying from DFW to RNO one night.

A very 'handy', but drunk couple.

The guy looked a lot like Milton, and the lady looked a lot like a remedial English teacher by day, trucker barfly by night.

*gag*

You know I'm just funning with you, Omar! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Besides, if I started picking on you, all the ladies on the site would send me hate mail about teasing 'that fine hunk o' man!' ha!
