Flight Case

publics' (mis?)conception that airline pilots are over-paid and over-sexed "bachelors cruising from town to town!

[/ QUOTE ]

I wanna be like that!!!!!!!!!!

Reality, sadly, is nothing like that.

I came to the bleak reality a few years ago that people that think you're an overpaid debutant bus driver will ALWAYS tink you're an overpaid debutant bus driver.

I really don't give a squat about the general public's perception because 99% of them are too lazy to get off their duffs and learn about the profession. The information is out there, but they always want to throw in your face that "Oh, the newspaper said you all make $500 billion dollars a year for 70 hours of work!"

Screw 'em! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Can't fight 'em, might as well glare indifferently at them.

...thus the need for anti-glare sunglasses! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

As long as my wife and my cats think I'm a'ok, John Q Public can kiss my grits! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Even had some yahoo say "Enjoy your FREE Miami Beach vacation you call a layover." once.

Meanwhile, it was an 9hr layover at an airport hotel which lies behind a serious security fence.

I wanted to grab myself and say "I got your 'FREE Miami Beach right here, champ!"

But no, gotta be professional!

Hey Doug,

Now you got me to thinking...has there ever been a show on Discovery Wings about the life or ways of being an airline pilot? I can't recall any. Maybe we can poll the members about this. I'm more than will to contact Discovery Wings, PBS, Speed Channel, Nat'l Geographic, etc. to petition for such a show.

Thanks,

JR

Funny you mention that, I'm going to run an experiment with 'pictures from the road, version 2.0' over the weekend, but stay tuned for details. Might have some more specifics tomorrow.

I had a friend get in trouble(slightly) because he had "Disgruntled Employee" and "The whole world is going to he!! and I'm driving the bus" stickers on his flight bag - chief pilot at Midway had a small problem with them apparently. So much for triing to have a sense of humor.

Jason

Yeah, well. See where that attitude got Midway....

Kidding. I'm a kidder.

(I'm still alowed to steal R2F's line. I'm still a Floridian for 48 hours.)

And now he's an FO at Comair ...

Rememebr the story about Jose and the DO? That was a good one!

But about the CP ...

Jason that Chief Pilot had a problem with EVERYTHING. I never met the Mesa chief pilot till I was there 3 years, but Felten had me in his office four times in nine months for a carpet dance.

And don't forget Danny getting fired for finding a Penthouse in the USAirways seat back pocket while jumpseating! A classic!

Look at the attachment: Remember these guys? (I couldn't find a pic of the whole class)

Speaking of flight cases, I just purchase one from ebags.com

It's a leather Korchmar with wheels on the bottom. I hope the quality is good. It retailed for $250.00 but I ended up getting it for $185.00 out the door with my skywest discount. We'll have to see how it is when it arrives on the 30th!

Just curious, why'd you get the one on wheels? Where are you going to put it?

Wheels on a flight kit... Moohhahaha! Rookie! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Doug doesnt have to worry I wouldnt hide his case unless I could be there to watch him roam around looking for it and scratching his head wondering where it was.
To much respect for him to hide and not be able to enjoy the search

altho i have to say that hiding his case on his last flight (retirement) would be pretty darn funny!! haha /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
