Flight Bags

I see people schlepping around enough to go on a walking overland trip across the Darien Gap. All for a turn to Indianapolis.

Buy a LW. Anyone in this business long enough to know how to pour pee out of a boot knows where the wear spots are. Get a spare set of wheels, a spare handle and a bag of screws. Get some angle aluminum from the Home Despot, and make the unapproved field mods to the wear spots.

VERY small bag for you iPad, some pens, and, lemme check, yup, nothing else required. Your personal iPad or laptop...wait for it....fits in your suitcase.

Forage for food on breaks and/or layovers. The sippy bottles everyone carry amuse me. You'd think y'all were going to dissolve like you had the Omega IV virus.

There, done. Get off my lawn.

I carry less stuff for my 17 days on the road than some people do for a four day.

foraging for food on breaks or layovers is often expensive, impractical or both. While I’d love to have a 1-2 leg day with 24 hour layover right next to a Whole Foods or a Wegmans, that simply isn’t happening. So I carry the food and supplements that are part of my diet/lifestyle and I’m happy schlepping a couple extra pounds of gear to meet those requirements.

Why?

Because I feel good and ultimately that makes me a better crew member. I’m as healthy as I can be because of those things. I like this and I’m gonna doing it as long as I’m physically able.

I guess you can roll your eyes and point and laugh or shake your head at people who do what I do. Enjoy it, I guess?

My shoulders finally gave up on the idea of carrying a messenger, so I swapped to a backpack again. Digging the Wandrd Prvke for all things layover/work/photo carry so far.

Decided to nerd out and write a review if anyone is interested. Yes, you may heckle me for leaning into the pilot aspect.

I just picked up the Nomatic travel pack based on this thread. Curious how we are attaching it to our bags. I tried putting it sideways on the rails and it's a bit cumbersome to haul around. Love the bag. Thanks.

Our crews either put it on sideways through the pass-through, or some take the top handle and slide it over their suitcase extension handle. I personally put it as designed sideways for a lower center of gravity.
