Flight Bags

I honestly wouldn’t worry too much about it. Plenty of people rocking backpacks.

It's a pretty bad look (and causes issues with my "other" job) when I violate the FOM. The company probably only would use that in a disciplinary sense against somebody who already has a target on them, but they certainly would use it to undermine my credibility in an arbitration or even just a negotiation.

Interesting that's a thing.

@BobDDuck if you go sans backpack, big fan of my Peak Design V1 messenger. Gotta look on eBay these days to find the older ones, but they are darn nice. The newer versions are good too, but I really like the V1. Though I'm thinking of moving to a backpack myself as my apparent old man shoulders don't like the messenger loaded down on long photo walks. Also saw this one the other day that looks promising...

We are all in on Peak here. My wife has the V1 messenger bag, as well as a small camera case. I've got plates on both my camera bodies plus the bag clip and tripod. Their stuff is great. It also doesn't come in black... which is another FOM requirement.

Yeah I saw your other response after I commented. Makes sense.

I had an Everyday Backpack in black, the messengers do too I'm pretty sure.

Also, yes. We have a Peak problem around here. We even have a verb..."Peak Designing" when we noticed all of our crap was from them when traveling. Love the tripod too.

I don't have access to anything at DFW
As long as you have KCM access, you have access to the secure side of DFW. When you get to the public door at gate C24 there is a sign with a phone number, you just call and someone "should" come up and escort you down to the store.

Does the escort have to be someone with an airport ID badge, or can an AA crew member escort them?

I don't think you need a badge, and definitely not a SIDA badge to get there. A lanyard with some sort of crew badge is more than plenty. It is just a retail store without the store front in the concourse. Still inside the sterile area like any of the credit unions, USOs, or prayer rooms scattered around the country in the airports.

Actually that size might be wrong. Here are the wheels I got:

And the strap mod:

Want to thank you for this idea. I followed your link and installed the new wheels (kept the bearings - could have replaced but the wheels would have slid a bit on the axle since the stock bearings have about 2mm of extension) and it's a significant improvement in the rolling of the bag.

The strap mod isn't really available anywhere anymore - tried a few places to find it. I've gotten used to it.

I’m coming up on a year with the bag/wheels and everything’s going well.

That strap mod is a 3d printed redesign/replacement for the OEM one that doesn’t allow the strap to pop out. The link appears to be good still - it’s a widget pilot making them. I was a little skeptical but it’s been holding up great toting my briefcase full of goodies including a full 1.5L bottle of water up and down curbs/steps.

Well, consumerism won and I ordered the LW Aurora flight tote. Had to ship it to the pad because they wanted $70+ to ship to my house. It looks like it will fit my style of packing better and also might fit under a seat back with a couple less kicks.
Flew a trip with it. It works. Dang headset case is still kind of bulky but I can jam this bag under the seat a little easier even with the headset case in it, and it has one dedicated bottle holder and a pocket that works as one on the other end. Maybe year 3 pay will be a ProFlight headset. I used to hate the idea of an in-ear headset but I wear earbuds all the time now commuting so I’m kinda used to it.

Some years back i had a wheel fall off when I was pulling my LW bag out of the trunk. Of course it happened when I was trying to catch a commute. Luckily I had all the pieces in hand and just needed to reattach it and tighten it down. Unfortunately I did not have any tools to do so. I was hoping the TSA folks would have something they had confiscated but no luck. Had to go back home and swap bags. Missed that commute and was late for my trip.
