Fleet at different locations

Is there a list somewhere that shows what fleet (including sims) each location has, and perhaps the approximate number of instructors? For example, if I wanted to go to a location that had more and/or newer sims would I be able to find that information another way then asking around for each location?

If you wanna fly new planes.. go to Dallas..

Don't base your decision on whether you will fly a 2000 or 1979 model. All I instruct in up in Chicago are newer models and while they have an extra 430 and a few additional "upgrades," the older Seminoles are easier to fly and the old style Nav 2 is a plus in my book for instrument training. I can almost guarantee you'll be flying both during your XC phase.

Yeh, the older airplanes are just as nice.. I got caught up in the "newer airplane" thing..

The fact of the matter is - when you go to CFI school with the career pilot program - you will fly your CFI rides in an older model...

Ya, like GATechKid said, dont base your choice on the aircraft. I think its much more important on choosing your location on where you want to live. If you dont like the heat, definitely dont go to Phoenix. I did the career program there over the summer and I was lucky to fly when it was below 110*F. The Phoenix location does have nice planes and a new sim because they need to compete with the other major flight schools in the area but if you can't handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen!

Well good luck on your decision and take care!

Ummmm... ok. Thanks for the responses but I wasn't really asking about new aircraft. I am wondering the size of the fleet at the different locations and the number/model of the sims.

But you did ask "if I wanted to go to a location that had more and/or newer sims"

I guess one could misconstrue that..

As far as new/versus old sims.. All the AST300's are about the same.. If your planning on picking a location based on the sim it has, your priorities are "backkerds.."

The actual number of aircraft varies at each location due to numerous factors such as maintenance needs, student load, or mysterious dispatch needs. ATL usually had anywhere from 4-8 seminoles parked out front when I was there. The number of instructors per 90 day location varies but usually averages around 4-5. I'm pretty sure every 90 day location has at least a sim with a garmin 430 GPS in it. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this one.

The only 90 day locations I visited on my XC were Atlanta, Dallas, and Jacksonville. All are good places and you really can't go wrong if you pick one of them.

Right now PHX has 4 a/c (1 79 and 3 2000) and a slightly broken Frasca sim (although it IS getting fixed). I've seen as many as 7 seminols on the ramp and there was a time we only had 2. It depends on the need for a/c at a given time.

Why dont they move the A/C around based on student enrolement? This would also allow different locations to get the newer planes every know and then (such as the DA40s). It wouldnt be too hard, just have the students that are building their cross country hours do the "ferrying"

ATP does a good job of having planes available based on student and maintenance needs, and typically the students on cross-country flights do ferry a/c to and from mx facilities. The Cessna 172's are used for the small amount of single engine training done, so it would not be a benefit to have a DA-40 at most locations.

I should have said the model of the sim, but that was just an example. I wasn't sure if all the sims were the same model or not. I was mainly curious just because a one instructor location may have different pros and cons vs. a bigger operation. I am just curious right now, but would probably be getting my multi, CFII, and MEI if I were to go with ATP, while getting my CFI at a certain FBO in SoCal.

Uh... they do move planes around based on enrollment. Keep in mind, the majority of ATPs business (numbers, not dollars) is in add ons. These are short 2 to 5 day programs. Numbers change very rapidly. We had 15 (I think) people in the office today training (in the aircraft, sim and on computers for test prep). However, on Saturday there may only be 3. As for 2000 vs 79s, differnt locations have different types for different reasons. We have 2000 out here because they tend to deal with the heat better and have (somewhat) fewer MX squawks. We don't have a very good MX set up here so it is a hassle to get stuff fixed. Other places have them for other reasons. As far as the DA40s... nobody needs them except JAX and DFW. They would sort of just take up ramp space as most of the instructors and students at ATP don't ever fly them.
