First Time today:)

I got quesy on my first few flights. On my instrument checkride, the DE got a little overzealous with the unusual attitudes, and I even got quesy then. The worst is when I'm doing stalls, though. The smell and the fumes from the engine kinda almost put me over the top. Kinda almost is not correct grammar, but I really don't care.

Although, I've noticed that the 172SP doesn't seem to emitt the fumes as badly as the 172s that are older than I am.....

I've been on two short flights in 172s, and gotten sick both times. Any advice?
Heavier plane? Nighttime? Lighter headset? Deeper breathing?
I think for me it's more of a stuffy cabin/trouble getting air problem than the in-flight motion.

Brian,
I recognize that area very well, landing/departing on Runway 8 at FXE. There was an incident there yesterday where a Cirrus SR22 lost power after takeoff, and the pilot deployed the parachute and landed safely in some trees.
Story here

Cessna's have a big wing root air vent...up in the corner of the cockpit where the wing meets the cabin. Make sure that puppy is open and pointing at your face and you'll get all the air you need.

Yeah, it wasn't only the flight for me either. This is a 1969 C172K, so I could smell the gas when we were flying. Also, he had the vent or whatever is that thing in top of us open, so there was constant wind blowing on us. Just when I got home I found out that it could be closed.lol I think the things that really got me was descent. When the airplane is slowing gliding down, I would get that fallling feeling, and then he would pull up and it would be the opposite force. Therefore, whenever I got used to one motion he did another one. I just wish I could do this more often. Unfortunnately, I can only do it in about a month.

I've come close to yakking in-flight only once--on a CAP search sortie back when I was 19 or so, with a crusty ol' former wing commander who believed in extremely thorough grid searches at the controls. After a couple hours of my peepers glued to the terrain, the combination of low-altitude maneuvering, heat (and the resultant turbulence) and drooping blood sugar all conspired to give me a case of those queasy sweats. Eww! I told the pilot we had to knock it off for a few minutes while my stomach settled down.

On the way to the airport try some gingerale. In the air if you feel sick suck on some ginger candy.

Have fun flying!

I go into take my Discovery Flight this Wednesday, if the weather cooperates. I am really looking forward to it, yet my instructor said that he would have to cancel it if the weather was bad. Here, it is supposed to be overcast with the possibility of a few showers.

Normally to take the Discovery Flight will the instructor wait until the weather is excellent, or do you think I will be able to fly if its just overcast with no wind?

Yea Mate, ya bloody excited and just wanted to fly, old mate took you up and the first few flights your probably gonna feel a little airsick, it happened to me to.

Youll come around tiger, shell be apples in no time.

I actually had it backwards, when I started to fly I had no problem with the motion sickness, then as time progressed I started to get motion sickness (I couldn't reach the peddles to well in the 172, so we were always uncoordinated). Then I started taking Dramamine, which I thought was totally cool, but when my instructor found out she had a few choice words to say about that issue(What were you thinking?!?!?!)

, then I gradually got better, stay away from greasy food, and it will get better!
