FedEx Feeders

I've heard UPS requires monthly bids for routes, no matter how great a job you've done- it can go to a competitor.
FedEx cancelled c208 flights if there was TS in the region.
There's not really anyone that can take over anyone's flying at this point though. The only reason AMF gave up MIA is because it was never that profitable and it was an easy sacrifice to ease the staffing strain. FedEx is losing a ton of money operating Mountain Air on Jamaica and has lost reliability on Grand Cayman with IBC (their Metros are in HORRIBLE shape). It's been talked about to run Jamaica out of BQN, but ultimately, whatever we're running the 120s on elsewhere is much more profitable. Hell, BQN really should be an all Brasilia base, but we don't have the fleet for it. Neither does anyone else if FedEx wanted to pursue larger airplanes. Mountain Air wouldn't be in the Caribbean at all with the ATR if there was an operator that could cover it. Unreliable and the runs they do cover are only heavy once a week.

For the ATR; Is there reserve in base? Are there assigned lines if you are a based pilot? What's the vacation policy and health insurance like? 401k match?

If the run is a based pilot with m-th; can a pilot commute on days off to a second home seeing how you are in cass?

To the others on this forum; I see the atr operation is 121; is there movement beyond this job to fedex or ups or delta or is the regionals still the best career path at this point.

Great questions

For the ATR:

Yes there is reserve in base.
Yes there are assigned lines if you are a based pilot... Example BUF-EWR or BUF-IND MTWT
Vacation policy is 2 weeks Vac then 3 weeks after 5 years service.
... first year first officers get 1 week off every 5 weeks and 2 weeks vacation = 10.6 weeks off per year
... first year captains get 1 week off every 3 weeks and 2 weeks vacation = 15 weeks off per year

401K match... 50% up to 6%

Yes the pilot can commute to a second home on your time off. You do have to show residence in your base.

How does reserve work in an assigned based like buffalo? On call? Do you get awarded a line in buffalo or do people take turns being on reserve?

How's the health insurance there for a single guy or a family?

What do you do in the out stations (Ewr or ind) is there a pilot lounge?

Seems like a great place to work!

BUF would not see reserve often. There are circumstances where it will happen. Example: using the run for OE, Training, Station familiarization.

Gateway bases will see reserve more often. Example: ATL... there are no planes based in ATL. This position exist to send pilots on direct flight to other runs.

Health Insurance is BCBS... its all standard. Our HR recruiter would be able to answer more on that topic. Ill PM you her information.

As for out stations...
EWR. Youre at the airport for about 2.5 hours. You hang in the crew lounge with the FedEx pilots.
IND. Youre at the airport for about 2.0 hours. The feeder operations have their own building with a pilot lounge.

Awesome! I appreciate the info! I'm not sure if im able to recieve PM's as I am new and have only lurked for a lengthy period! I've looked at mountain air cargo for a while and this latest post seems like it's a real gem.

What is the training footprint like for the pt121 atr side? Is it done in house? Recurrent training? Pass rate? Historically; What have been the latest competitive mins for Captains? What is the typical hiring process look like? Thanks again!

No but throwing boxes could get you an interview assuming you meet the mins. Not sure if things have changed but internals at FexEx get first crack at jobs last time I checked even if you are part time.

Baseleg, thanks for the info. What are realistic flight hour minimums Mountain air cargo is hiring into the right seat right now?

For the ATR? You need ATP minimums. For the Caravan you need 135 IFR minimums and that's it. We do have an approved CTP program now, so you don't need to have your ATP written completed. I'm moving from the Caravan to the ATR in September.

What's competitive for ATR Captains? Do they hire street captains?

@Baselegbob1 Question can you apply to MAC for a C208 position couple months before reaching 135 minimums? I understand the minimums are 1200, but I would like to have a resume on file to update as I get closer. I'm currently at 830 total time, 70 hours night, 400 hours P2P x-country. I will be flying survey again from October-May.

Yes you can... just join our talent network. Keep updating.

Once you get 1200TT shoot me a message with your first and last name and your email address that matches your app.

I'll get the HR to pull it and get the ball rolling.

All training is done in a level D simulator.
