FedEx Feeders

lthompson020

I told you the Drake was bad. I hate the Drake!
To any current or former FedEx Pilots: Does FedEx give any preferential hiring/ interview priorities to pilots currently employed with feeder companies e.g. Mountain Air Cargo, Empire Airlines? Thanks in advance for the
replies.

Thanks, hope that wasn't too stupid a question. Trying to figure out what are my options for entry/intermediate level flying jobs and what to expect for upgrades.

Yeah, just passing on the laughter from Fred. They don't want the feeder trash in their jets!

This isn't exactly true. Having worked for a feeder will not disqualify you from working at FedEx. I'm not sure how or why this rumor is so pervasive. It will not give you any sort of preferential treatment when applying to FedEx, but it certainly isn't disqualifying.

You will almost certainly have to go somewhere else (like a regional) after a feeder before applying to Big Purple, but having a feeder on your resume isn't some sort of black mark by any stretch of the imagination.

I'd like to know where the word of mouth rumor started. People spreading false information as if it is the industry gosple is disgusting!

Thanks @Apophis for speaking up.

So many people people loose out on opportunity based on false information from here-say.

@lthompson020 be mindful of trolls on these forums who preach unknown facts, gathered from "a buddy of mine said" here-say.
Nothing is set in stone. Your work history, background, education/qualifications, strength of referals, and extracurricular actives outside of work, networks, flight time qualifications are what matters most.

Good luck. Fly safe out there.

Thanks for the encouragement @ScorpionStuinger. The due diligence is my responsibility regardless of what I might learn on a Forum. I try to get as many viewpoints as I can to make a better "informed" decision. I appreciate anyone willing to respond.

This is not firsthand experience, but I'd bet FedEx Ultra would want more multi and crew experience than FedEx Minor can provide. Once you have that experience, also having the feeder on your resume should by no means be detrimental to getting picked up.

So if you have no experience with FedEx or their feeders, why are you bothering to comment on the matter? This is how rumors get started.

Both Empire Airlines and the feeder I work for (MAC) operate ATR-42/72 aircraft, and Caravan guys who meet the experience can always go to the ATR. Are you telling me the ATR isn't a multi/crew aircraft?

Granted, these are the only two feeders which operate ATRs, but it's still 121 time, and it's still multi/crew/turbine time.

I find it hilarious and pathetic at the same time that so many people with zero knowledge on this matter continue to speculate and create rumors.

I don't have a dog in this fight but let's say someone has only ATR experience and they apply for FedEx. Wouldn't Fedex want someone with jet time as opposed to turboprop? I would think picking a regional, racking up a bunch of jet time and networking would be better than ATR time for a feeder if the end goal is FedEx.

If you get on any feeder ups also, single pilot or crew and serve for a year or two on turbine aircraft (multi engine very helpful) a lot more better jobs open up to you. I've seen former coworkers get hired on to fly airlines, corporate jets, aerial firefighting planes, medevac, and some of those who racked up +3000 hrs turbine on feeders have been hired at Atlas. Mainline airlines, FedEx/ups are at the top just have to work your way up.

No. How would it be any different than a guy who works at CommutAir or Piedmont, or PenAir, or whatever the case may be from applying to FedEx or a major? Oh wait...those guys are screwed I guess because they fly scary airplanes with big spinny things in front of the engines. And yes..I realize Piedmont (and I think CommutAir as well) have a flow or preferential interview or whatever it is these days. That wasn't always the case though.

And I'll just say this as well, I have no dog in this fight. Yes I work for a feeder, but I don't want to fly freight the rest of my life and working at FedEx is not at the top of my career list.
