Alrightly guys and girls... There is doom and gloom on the horizon. Apparently, one of our bank customers got bought buy another bank during the whole mortgage crisis fiasco. Well this new bank doesn't ship checks, they email them... and when this area's takeover is complete,which possible in one week, I'll be getting notice. I've talked to the CP about it, which he said he doesn't have a crystal ball and he hasn't been told anything. But my research tells me it's going to happen.

So... regarding my fate... when I get furloughed, what should I do. I am thinking heavily with applying at Colgan, even though for the last year I've been saying to all my friends not to. But I've decided that was very closed minded and I should see what options I have, especially now when I may not have a job! So, Colganites, what is your opinion of stuff that is going on. And if other people know where a 3000TT, 2000ME hardened veteran of winter and summer freight dog can go, let me know!
 
I would do a combination of options you listed. First get on unemployment, then apply to Colgan, Compass, American Eagle, Great Lakes and every other operator you can find that is hiring. Good luck!

No joke the last class that went thru indoc here was furloughed USA 3000 guys. At a commuter. It's getting tough out there.

Call 1-800-800-4JET, ask for Sherri Hudson, she's very nice and would probably be happy to chat with you about your application. You get extra points with her if you have Lear time.

Get hired.

Go to Burbank for training.

Fly the Chieftain.

Hate your life.

Now there are two possibilities when you reach the point of hating your life:

First...

Quit.

Go to American Eagle.

Second...

Deal with hating your life, eventually upgrade to the 99, maybe the Metro.

Continue to hate your life.

Quit.

Hopefully go to someplace other than American Eagle.

Thanks to JayAre, I was contacted a month ago by his Assistant Chief Pilot. We were talking about an interview date and such, but he had to wait from approval from Sherri. So I waited, and waited, and waited ... finally last week I emailed him back, but haven't heard back since.
 
The squeaky wheel gets the grease at Amflight.

Have JayAre talk with his chief about you.

If he doesn't, let me know, and I'LL call JayAre, bust his balls a little bit, and make sure he talks with the chief about you.

And if he STILL doesn't, I'll call another one of my buddies who is a Metro driver in SLC and have him talk with the chief about you.

Well, just called the 800 number... apparently my resume never made it to Sherri! But now, I'll be waiting for a June class if I get hired.
 
Eagle is gonna have better pay and QOL over Colgan so get on them first. You may not be able to afford to live working at Colgan unless your parents are helping you.
 
I guess the times have changed. I was raised that unemployment was for those who truely could find no work anywhere and were desperate. My father went from being a VP at a tech firm in 1973 to scrubbing buildings so he could pay the mortgage. Not once did he take unemployment.
Of course I also seem to be one of the few retired military people without a disability.
 
UI is a benefit provided to those individuals who, through no fault of their own, are put out of the work force.

View it as a hand out if your mind requires you to, but for many of us it helped keep houses over our families' heads, and food on the table while we spend (in some cases) 7+ months looking for full time employment that would provide the same level of income and benefits as the jobs we were pushed from.

And that's just the problem. You, along with a great deal of the population feels entitled to the same pay and benefits as their previous job. The money does not just appear from fairyland, someone else provides that money in order for you not to work. What about actually earning your own money instead of mooching off of others unless you truly can not find work?? Maybe you might even have to cut back a bit on your lifestyle. I guess my father was the only sucker who felt that way as we scrimped and saved after he lost his job. But at least he and our family had the satisfaction of knowing that we never lived on the dole.

I think your dad lived in a different era in different times. Today a job scrubbing windows is going to pay half as much as UE. I applaud the nobility but the fact is this is a different world. When you are making a certain amount of money and your mortgage/bills are based off that money, any old minimum wage job isn't going to cut it especially when it requires you working endless hours to make ends meet leaving no time to look for the job that you are qualified for.

Nope, for YEARS I paid into the system. I paid my taxes, I paid for others' unemployment so they could get on their feet. For the 6 months post-9/11 that I was on unemployment, I considered it payback for all the money I had already paid into the system. Consider it collecting on the deposits you'd already paid. ;)

Unemployment is there for a reason. There is nothing wrong with using the resources available to you. Don't abuse the system, but use what is available.
