Famous People...

OK... So I've never really met anyone really famous until I hit the glamourous job of "Airline Pilot"! ;)

My first experience was on a downtown ATL overnight. Capt and I go to Hooters and order 50 wings. yes, 50. As we start to polish them off, all of the hooters girls start congregating two tables over in the corner. We finally snagged one and and asked what was going on. She says... "That's Chris Tucker... You know... from Rush Hour". We didn't really believe it becuase he has put on a few pounds and didn't really look like him... but once we started listening to the conversation... his voice is unmistakeable.

Anyway... he eats and finishes while we are still wrking on the 50 wings... he heads downstairs and suddently the music is cranking and the girls are screaming... We look over the balcony and it's some old guys birthday and the hooter's girls had re-arranged the tables to make a "catwalk", in which each one would walk/dance down strutting their stuff, and then the birthday boy would follow suit... then Chris Tucker and his crew! All were having fun... he looks up and sees us peering over the balcony and in that voice of his... he yells... "Hey guys... Come on down!" So what are we to do? Keep peering over the balcony like a bunch of tourists... or go down and dance with the hooters girls and Chris Tucker...

Well... I'd like to say I got "Jiggy with it" with the Hooters Girls, Chris, and his crew... but alas... all we did was go down, introduce ourselves, and shake his hand as we headed out. Yeah... really bad ending to what could have been a great story... but we had just finished a long duty day and we were dragging tired and stuffed as we had just put away like 47 of the wings. So we just rolled ourselves out the door and across the street to the Westin and called it a night.

The only thing that reminded me of this was the fact that on my last 4 day... we had a BNA overnight, and I flew Clay Walker and Lee Ann Womak from IAH to BNA. We put Clay's guitar in the crew closet and he played travel scrabble with his travel companion the whole flight.

Lee Ann was quite a nice lady. Nothing significant to report. We wouldn't have even known they were on the flight if the gate agents weren't making such a big deal out of it... but overall... they looked like perfectly normal people. :)

Any other "Famous" people experiences while "Flyin' the Line" out there?

I was at Hooters today and had some wings. The Hooters girls did a special birthday dance for a couple of 14 year old boys from a baseball team that was there. Guess that's Spokane vs Atlanta for ya...

Can't say I have had any great parties either. Back when I was flying out of PIT I've flown Frankie Valle, and couple members of the old 80's band RATT.

Is Chris just as funny in real life?

He was playing it cool... he stayed under the radar until the Hooters girls started telling all their customers he was there, and by then the H girls had huddled around him to have their pics taken with him while having him sign a bunch of stuff... It wasn't until he was on the way out and saw the "birthday" dancing going on that he started to "let loose".

As far as how funny he was... well... just listening to that voice was funny enough for me. LOL!

Air Force one passed over us in cruise yesterday on our way to Tulsa. As we looked at Air Force One I pondered whether or not the President was looking out his window and thought, wow an ASA CRJ. :sarcasm:

While I haven't flown anyone famous, while I was working line at Flower Aviation in Salina, I got to meet A LOT of famous people. Most of them were pretty cool too. My favorite regular was Howie Long.

50 wings!? I guess you skipped lunch...and breakfast, too!

We fly a fair amount of famous people in 135 charter. My company works with quite a few retired and/or current government and political figures (some of them are definitely 'regulars') as well as periodically flying sports figures, actors, musicians, etc.

Of course, privacy and discretion are extremely important to these folks or they wouldn't be spending lots of $$ to charter a plane...so along those lines, I don't have much to say. ;) As for PUBLIC experiences with famous people, I guess I've missed out!

Got to meet Jack Nicholas once! He flew in to AVQ to look at some land in Marana for his new special personalized golf corse (woo.... hoo):sarcasm:

One of the instructors got a signed picture with him! Nice GV he flew in on!

Morgan Freedman comes through our airport all the time on his way to the Bahamas. He personally flies his 421, I didn't get to talk to him though, I just gawked along with everyone else.

Hmmm...

Why?

If you are a charter pilot and your company has a contract with said clients then I can understand your reasoning... but if they are flying via Airlines... in full public view of people at the ticket counter, security, concessions, gate, plane, etc... what harm is it.

Don't see any "stalkerazi-esque" issue's with it. Public people in a public setting. Watching Entertainment Tonight is more innappropriate to me... :)

After all... People always mention they saw Doug at the airport on here... and he's like... you know... kinda famous... isn't he? ;)

Ran into Carrot Top in LBB one night and flew him out the next day. He's freaking huuuuuuuuuge now!! Nice guy though.

Two weeks later, we flew Max Weinberg (sp?) of the E Street Band and Conan O'Brien fame. He was a super nice guy.

It's okay, you can tell 'em I was in the back of one of your flights.

I partied with a famous webmaster in Vegas. It was a great time until they all started to go hot-tubbin with their street clothes on. :D

I think it's somewhat unprofessional.

If I was a celebrity and shopped at Home Depot...I wouldn't really care for an employee of the corporation I was doing business with to go public with the type of materials I was purchasing. I probably wouldn't care for the employee representative of the airline I was flying with to go on and on about what seat I sat in and what airports I was flying to and from.

If the customer in line behind me at home depot told their friends about the occasion...that's one thing. For an employee to do so, I feel it's inappropriate. I might be inclined to use a different company the next time.

I have a friend who is a famous Hollywood type. High name recognition. I've been invited to some interesting gatherings. I'm amazed at how down to earth these folks are...many want to live a normal life away from Hollywood. They expect the companies they do business with to not make a big deal about them. But it happens all the time and kind of goes with the territory, I suppose.

Having said that...I'm sure there's no harm done in naming names...and I don't know what extent privacy laws come into play...I know of no policy at my airline, anyway, prohibiting it.

If someone asked me the question over a beer at the bar I'd probably engage the discussion. Putting names in print seems a bit unprofessional to me.

A lot of times they are not at the ticket counters or in full view of the public...but board via the jetway stairs at the last minute and deplane via the same stairs to a VIP car on the ramp. Many people on the airplane do not even realize who is on board.

I had a guy in New York last week...famous singer. He actually boarded from the ramp but sat in coach! People recognized him and he signed a few autographs. I wouldn't have recognized him if the FA's hadn't pointed him out.

Loved RATT.

Gotta be Bono, he's notorious for sitting in coach :)

.

Maybe they do that, but I've never seen it. In my former life when I got to fly in FC I sat near and even next to all kinds of famous folks and they boarded like everyone else, though in a hat or sunglasses or reading a newspaper. Even sat next to Ray Charles at the gate in LAX--he did have an electric cart meet him at EWR.

Now that I'm in the cockpit I never really see anyone famous though we did have a couple of Cleveland Browns players on an ATL flight the other day.

50 wings, Bob? That takes skill!
