Yes, but these are two training planes in a training area that is known to be congested. That is much different than two jet converging at over 400kts each.
 
You know how much easier it is to spot a 737 than a 172? The planes I fly have TIS, and I know what direction, what altituded, what heading, climbing or decending, and still have to look for a while sometimes before I can find them. A 121 aircraft leaving IAH on the other hand, no problem spotting them.

And anyone that says they dont have any problem finding traffic, and that if people would scan nobody would ever crash is full of crap... I scan, my eyes are outside the majority of the time, and I still get the traffic ding sometimes before I see them. Untill I was flying planes with traffic, I had no idea how many planes flew by me within a mile without me knowing about it.
 
Some of the practice areas are getting out of control with traffic congestion. I flight instructed out of LGB for a while and that was by far one of the most congested areas I have ever flown. I had two near collisions in the practice area and one in the traffic pattern of 25R. While on right downwind for 25R I was overtaken by a 152, 5 feet above us. I was shocked that hit prop didn't shred our tail to bits. Maybe installing a G430 with TCAD would be a nice addition? Used that at my last 135 job and it saved our tail a time our two. Just helps with the situational awareness, in my opinion.

As far as the ATP story is concerned, truly sad. Horrible that the parents have to deal with their tragic loss and being sued. :mad:

No. If you're in a situation where a lawsuit is applicable and you have a shot at winning, just file and deal with it. Threats are one thing. If they know you have a case worth winning you'll get your way.
 
From the peanut gallery, a threat to sue always comes when the process server arrives, not thru a heated email or private message on an internet forum.

I'm talking about the terminal area also, which is under 250 knots and in many situations under 200 knots.
