FAA written

Just wondering, lets say I took my Commercial or Private pilot FAA written exam, and I score the minimum passing grade of a 70 percent will the airlines see my score and actually consider it in the hiring process. thank you.

Since you give it to the DE and they keep it I don't know of anyway the airlines could find it. I cant remember what I got on all mine anymore other than the highest score was a 95 and the lowest an 80.

Finished them all in 14 days and got my ME rating in that time along with doing a good portion of sim work for the instrument... Talk about a rough two weeks!

This might explain why I couldn't find mine to put with the rest of my records!

Montana's right. But, once you pass the checkride, I'm pretty sure the score report goes into a vault at the FSDO if they don't throw it away all together.

scoring low on a written is a good way to guarantee yourself an oral exam from hell.

Correcto!

Believe me, I know.

I got a 92 on the PPL written and I heard my DE say something (I'm not sure exactly because I was too excited) after my checkride about how he does the orals with varying test scores. I thought his oral exam was a piece of cake and I had over prepared, but my buddy who got in the low 80s went to the same DE and came back and said it was a brutal oral. But, there is probably a correlation between his score on the written and how much he actually studied for the oral, so take that into account.

None of my examiners have ever asked to even see my written, they just checked the logbook endorsements to make sure I had them done.

My private oral lasted about 20 min. and consisted of a few multiple choice questions the DE wrote out before hand, and a chart of various airport signs that I had to identify.

My instrument oral was about 3 1/2 hours, but of which the DE was only there for about 1 1/2 hours and only asking be questions for about 45 mins. The rest of the time we were chatting (this guy gets on a soap box very easily), or he was on his cell phone, or wandering around out on the ramp talking with various people. He needed a break every now and then I guess. I don't think he likes to give orals at all. When he was quizzing me it looked like one of the most paifull things he'd ever done. He had a binder of questions he asked, and as he was flipping through the binder he said, almost whining, "I really don't want to go through this thing, but the FAA gets on my ass about it. We're almost done, can you put up with it just a little longer?" I remeber thinking to myself, "I can put up with it just fine. It's you I'm worried about."

That's weird.

I agree.....have you recieved your permanent certificate from the FAA? If so, then I'm pretty sure theres been a major screw up......unless things have changed in the last 6 months since I stopped signing people off for checkrides.

yes, I got the plastic licence a while back.

Did you use IACRA? If you do that, you can shred the written result sheet for all they care. They just need the exam ID number off it.

I don't know if that's required Lloyd. What I was taught at examiner school is that we have to verify that a passing grade was received on the test and the student has been "critiqued to 100%" which kind of implies having the test score, although I suppose you could have some sort endorsement from the instructor.

I remember bringing my test scores to every check ride, but I still have my Instructor (FOI, FIA) results - the examiner did not take them for whatever reason.

Good point, JT. I wouldn't know either way (never been an examiner), but I was indeed under the impression that the test results had to be turned in.

Very interesting!

I'm looking in to it. It might be one of those things that just isn't enforced. I'd sure hate to think my CFI ticket is no good because he didn't hand in my written test results!

I've always been under the impression that the written results were required to be turned in by the DPE with the 8710. Not sure where I got this notion from, but I'll try to check with one of the DPE's here at Purdue and try to get a straight answer.
