FAA database reveals 6,100 problem pilots

I did a lot of research on this subject using data from a great many sources. I ran it through various computer models and did extensive statistical analysis on the results. The conclusion is very distressing and alarming. It turns out that 50% of the pilot population is below average.

:rotfl:

Thank you for your invaluable research into the aviation community.

I'm less concerned with what the public thinks because it will be in one ear and out the other by the next news cycle. My question is is this something that management can hold over the heads of the various unions the next time there are contract talks? I'm not a comm pilot but wondering if this would happen?

...chances are your pilot is sleeping, drunk, or on Facebook.

Or on JetCareers. I'm looking forward to the day when there's a thread in here going something like

Guys, I'm loving on this Verizon wireless card. FO's watching the autopilot, FA just freshened up my coffee, and I'm here adding to my tiki mug collection on eBay. I'm in a bidding war with --

--uh, gotta go. Apparently Cleveland Center's been calling us for the past ten minutes. Learning how to use the schedule, that's what I'll tell them.

I wonder how many "problem drivers" are out on the highways. You know, the ones who got a 'warning' 10 years ago.....

But what if we're listening to LiveATC just to be sure if we go NORDO, we've still got a backup to Rx? :)

Well it makes for a decent news piece, throw some numbers together and make it relevant to something a lot of people don't understand and/or are scared of.

But realistically you have to wonder what some of those were. For example the engine failure could be some pencil pusher looking at the 3000' general aviation runway the 767 overflew on the way to a real airport. It happens.

In any case it is a small number that should be smaller. And keep in mind any one of those on YOUR record is going to essentially stop your career in it's tracks.

:laff:

Isn't the common saying that 10% of any group is going to be poor at best? This doesn't come close to that number.

In other news I just heard the amazing news it is almost guaranteed to snow this Dec in New England.

What a surprise, some new outlet gets a fact and distorts it. 6100 pilots over 10 years and countless operations. I would hope that this factoid is something that doctors and other professionals would aim for.

I wonder what the percentage of taxi drivers who have been
-ticketed
-in a wreck
-dui/dwi
-any combination of the above
-any combination of the above and add in some other ridiculous event

I wonder how many "problem doctors" are out there? How many have an undiagnosed drinking problem and yet are still performing surgery while "under the influence" or practicing medicine day to day? And why do they call it "practicing" medicine if they've already graduated?!:dunno:

And if they're just 'practicing', why do they still charge "real deal" prices? :)

Wh... what, pilots do that? I thought that was strictly controller geekery.

Although it's not much of a stretch to picture a controller running into that problem, going NORDO himself while listening to some other facility. It's okay, we've got ATSAP to save us.

Nerd alert!!

Ha. Like you didn't know what you were getting yourself into.

I'm a problem pilot. Thats it, I'm a pilot and I have problems. Namely problems with stupid people. Stupid people are not limited to the media, however information services seem to have a larger mass center to gravitationally pull those stupid enough to not realize what is going on.

One time at SCK I missed the taxiway leading to the runway and had to do a 360 while an Allegiant MD-80 waited behind me. I wasn't paying attention. Almost lost my wife and kids and I've never even seen them. I'm turning in my wings. I've lost the edge.
