Expressjet returning with an ex-JAL 777???

No news stories yet, but several aviation blogs and other sources reporting that Expressjet just today has filed for a dormancy waiver with the DOT for their operating certificate and has already purchased an ex-JAL 777-200 that they wish to add to the cert. It's speculated this will be a charter outfit like Omni using that reactivated cert...

Interesting. From feeder airline, to Aha!, to...long haul wide body charter operator? Makes me wonder if someone who wanted to start up an airline just snaked a way to try and use the Xjet brand/cert to get going.

Anyone heard anything? I had no idea they still even had employees.

N771LG Logistic Air Boeing 777-200

The 777-200 appears to have been sold by JAL to an entity called Logistic Air and stored since Janurary. Perhaps Xjet is leasing it from Logistic Air already, but looks like they don't own it. Seems legit with several sources saying it's this plane. LOL @ whoever has the confidence to take that job over all the solid airlines hiring.

It worked out super well for The New Eastern (wunwunwun), so I don't see why this would be anything but a huge success.

Rob McKinney has been trying for 2+ years to launch a jet operation out of Anchorage. Lots of people try, not many are successful (Herb Kelleher being an exception).

That operation is a mess. Only operated one successful flight so far.

Northern Pacific
Oh, yeah I knew a lot of people who bought tickets for the planned inaugural which of course was canceled and postponed several weeks. I saw LAS-ONT was delayed several hours on the first flight, but I thought it operated and another roundtrip did yesterday or the day before as well?

Something maintenance-related, regarding dead batteries, caused the delay on the inaugural. Only rumors, so take it with a grain of salt.

That’s a bad omen. How do these places even find pilots?
A year or so back I was chatting with a young lady in the JS. She was commuting from SBP-LAX-HNL to go back to work at Mokulele. She had mentioned she received a cjo from Northern Pacific to fly 757’s all over the world.

Both the captain and I told her to exercise some extreme caution. I wonder what ever happened to her?

Point being, there’s enough low time folk out there who get excited at questionable opportunities.

Speaking of questionable startups, there's this one too. Guy thinks he's going to be able to make all business class A380s work between London and NYC.

The Instagrammer says he wants to bring back the "golden age" of flying with space on his planes for socialising, and a better economy and business class experience.

Uh, excuse me, the what?
