Ok, I was afraid the CAPT replaced the standard AS program.
Do I think the program has any value? Sure.
Do I think you need it? Absolutely not.
Would I do it? Nope.
I recognize that ERAU has to do things like this to compete because it's a extraordinarily competitive market. Once upon a time, their competitors were just the major collegiate aviation programs, but with some of the large flight academies offering 'sister' programs at local colleges, they're probably doing this to differentiate themselves from the rest of the market.
Not to diss the magazine I grew up with aviation-wise, but if you take a peek at the ads in "Flying", you'll see what Embry-Riddle is trying to compete with.
I think I would have offered an A320 or a 737 type rating instead of the MD-90, but last time they asked me to donate as an alumni, I laughed - so I'm sure they'd take my suggestion and put them in the 'circular file'.
I think it's a lot like going out for a hamburger. There's a $2.79 1/2lb burger wiff cheese and all of the fixings. But then there's also a $18.49 Kobe beef burger on fococcia bread. Problem is, they're both still hamburgers, but the $2.79 burger comes with fries and a coke, whereas the $18.49 Kobe beef burger everything else is a la carte.
I'm hungry, can you tell?
