Envoy 3 month upgrade

my buddy is a senior FO...says reserve CA is ****ing terrible...and with the bonus structure he doesn't lose out on too much money.

he said there is a bunch of senior FO's that will ride it out till they flow in the right seat.

As a reserve CA I don't think it's bad. Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment. The pay difference is definitely noticeable.

To each his own.

Also despite what others have said, reserve is not forever like it used to be. It's not a 10 year upgrade, it's not a 20 year flow, it's not eternal reserve. Things have changed.

I made about 50% more as a reserve CA than I did as a line holding CA, but my schedule was hell.

I'd much rather be reserve CA over a line holding FO any day even if it only paid slightly more.

it depends how much....we talking 10K or 50K....because my QOL matters way more

Well at that time I averaged 150 hours of pay a month as a reserve CA. FOs were lucky to get 100-110. So the pay difference was around 40 hrs x $35/hr which was a lot of money to me (us) back then.

I realize times have changed and people are making a lot more in the right seat as well as feel much more secure about the world and industry so for them it might not be worth it.

At my current job I'm on the low time plan, leaving around $30k in income on the table. I value time at home more.

I thought you had to upgrade to be eligible to flow...but idk, the game has probably changed since I left, no longer have a horse in that race.

Those who were in the 824 had to be a captain to flow. We just flowed the last of those guys last month, so now they're flowing the "protected pilot" group. And for that group, you don't have to be a captain to flow.

Ahh, ok cool

Anyone who thinks it's so easy to get hired at any major carrier is out to lunch.

I hate to open Pandora's box here, but I agree. Anything could happen with the flow, don't get me wrong. Nothing is assured in this industry. I have all my apps out and am trying as hard as possible to get out of envoy. Yet here I am.

If I flow to AA, I will consider myself extremely lucky. There are over 900 pilots at AA that got there via flow. Would all of them have made it without a flow? I doubt it.

It's frustrating to hear people talk about how we are all guaranteed a job at the majors in the future due to retirements. The flow isn't a guarantee, but it's ridiculous to assume everyone will have a seat at the majors due to attrition.

that would be a d***punch if you didn't know that....I can ask

Thank God, I might add.
Quick upgrade sounds great, until you realize that some (albeit few) on the left half of the bell curve can also pass the ride. I shudder to imagine what this would be like without the 1k SIC.
It's been an interesting year.

What it WAS like, is the wording you're looking for. Some guys were upgrading at ATP mins years ago.

And some kids wonder why the old men thought these new rules were a good idea.
