Enroute activities?

Who cares what other pilots do enroute? If you have to ask, you needn't worry about it.

Sheesh, sounds like an airliners.net discussion.

My bad ESF -

It's just that I have sixteen weeks left until commencement and am literally writing down the pro's and con's of commercial flying vs. police work, so every little thing is going through my head, haha!

ESF,

Easy on the airliners.net discussion! We have yet to mention Northwest DC-9s or how every airline should buy the 717. As a prospective airline pilot, I am interested in learning about ALL aspects of the job. No one has to answer, but I feel like I/We should at least be able to ask.

Oh I don't care. I was just making an observation.

I'll just say that a 4 hour leg in a King Air where nothing out of the ordinary happens is about 3.5 hours of mind-numbing boredom. Not quite as bad with another pilot though. Better yet if empty or cargo.

As is sitting at 11,000 on autopilot in a T210 by yourself in severe clear weather with a 55 knot headwind and 350 nm remaining.

In the King Air, we just eat the snacks, drink coffee/soda, watch for traffic, and shoot the breeze on the long flights.

I have a short attention span...I don't think I could ever fly long-haul cargo!

I know a furloughed Delta pilot that passed up "recall" to continue working with on the LAPD. I'm not sure if that helps or hurts, but there it is!

Thanks Doug!

Ironically, I'm actually almost done with the Scottsdale PD process (I'm headed down there Wednesday for a polygraph). They are going to be starting an air wing within the next three years (or so they say), so that really excites me. Any good/bad experiences with them? Although I don't live down there, they seem to be a fairly well-educated department with growth-potential.

J.

we've had no good or bad experiences with them and I'm looking at keeping it that way! hahahhaha

I have had one experience with a COP (City of Phoenix) guy and he was really very nice (minor little traffic stop)

but it would be nice to know someone on the force in town here - doesn't hurt to have contacts!
grin.gif

good luck with that, let us know what happens!

Last time I even talked to a policeman was 2002 in front of Parliament where Kristie and I posed with him!

Seriously, I havne't had any experiences with Scottsdale PD at all, but they seem to do a good job I guess.

(1) Crosswords.
(2) Magazines.
(3) Take pictures.
(4) Harass the FO.
(5) Pretend to be a controller and reply to every request with "Unable."
(6) Eat.
(7) Make up fake waypoints on the FMS and name them with naughty words.
(8) Dream of working for a better airline.
(9) Ponder the long walk to the back of the aircraft to use the lav.
(10) Flip through the EICAS pages every couple of minutes just to make sure they're all there.
(11) Look at my flight case and think "Why DO I have to carry all this carp?!"
(12) Read the nutritional data section of the Chex Mix and realize I shouldn't be reading it.
(13) Look down at people out boating and wonder if they know how good it'd feel to be at work.
(14) Clean the cockpit panels and window shade.
(15) Wonder how many pax will complain about having to wait 3 minutes to deplane after I pull us into the gate 20 minutes early.

Not to self-incriminate, but a pilot's best friend is an iPaq and an installation of "AvantGo".

Doug, I looked on their website and I was wondering what you like about it. It looks cool, but what all can I do with AvantGo?

A long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... a certain FO that worked for a certain cargo company was bored and thought he'd liven up the long flight. The FO "went out back" and pulled some seaweed out of coolers that lobsters were packed in, draped the seaweed around him (without clothes on) and pretended to be a swamp monster coming into the cockpit. Certainly got the rest of the crew's attention!!

Extra $20 for GPRS service. If Mesa makes an extra $20 "cost prohibitive", time to freshen up those resumes, Bogberto!"

I bought a Cockpit jukebox. Works really good.

www.cockpitjukebox.com

You just plug any sound device (mp3 player, cd player, etc...) and you can listen to music in your headset. I own bose headsets like my picture says and it sounds really good. When atc or the guy next to you speak, it lowers the music volume down so you dont miss a thing!

Makes work go by quicker.

Wow, I guess they skimped on the expense of an industrial designer; that's one ugly piece of gear.
