empirical data on why Grand Forks sucks

As far as businesses here, the town really revolves around the University. Aside from the Aviation program, UND has an excellent business school...mainly the accounting department. Cirrus also does their composite work here and the town is kind of a hub for local agriculture.

Taildragger, your comment is flawed in the sense that there's NO WAY on earth you could possibly be saying I'll have equally as many things to do, or have equally the amount of fun that I have in NYC. You could NOT possibly be saying that this state has as much to offer as good'ol NYC does...
And that's why I have my strong opinion about living here. It'd be stupid of me to compare this ####hole to my lovely city. The point is ..... I'm never gonna have as much fun here as I do in a big city. The list of activities you can do here is sooooo limited compared to what you can do elsewhere.

People who came here by mistake are misinformed and misadvised. That is the problem. We are here to inform people with opinions from those who either like or dislike this place.

Word. Most people who came here didnt even know the difference between a part 141 school and a part 61 school to even begin to make an educated decision about where they wanted to go. Myself included. Thats what I love about Jetcareers. Its opens you up to so many different other perspectives. Last night I stayed up late reading about freight and I would now consider that a serious career option as well as an Airline Pilot.
 
Well it seems like the good thing about Grand Forks is that you will become more appreciative when you move back to wherever you came from. Next time you see the ocean or a mountain you might take an extra moment and take in the sights. Ive also heard there is alot of beautiful areas within 2-5 hours from Grand Forks. I heard Duluth is very nice and also the Bemidji area. When I was younger I visited Itasca State Park in Minnesota and that seemed like a really nice place to camp with plenty of outdoor activities. Not sure if you guys like camping but I think Itasca would be a nice place to visit.

Does UND rent out kayaks or canoes? It might be fun to utilize the river and go for a paddle.

in the last 2.5 years i have made about 15 trips to montana, and i am not even from there! if i could get a decent aviation job out there, i would move

They all sound more exciting. At least their names are more interesting than "GRAND Forks."

Costa Rica is much better. After living there for a year, I can honestly say I'd rather live there than here.

When I have to compare Grand Forks to Africa to feel better about living here, I think we all can agree, this place is ######.

I lived most of my life in Superior which is just across the pond from Duluth on the WI side. That area is one of my favorite areas. Duluth is a very nice city thats not too big, around 80,000 people. It reminds me of a mini-san francisco, u can stand on the waterfront (biggest freshwater port in the world) and look up on the hills at the buildings and homes. Its especially pretty at night. Theres not as many sea food restaurants and shops obviously, but there are some real nice ones down there. One even has REAL Mexican food like u guys miss so dearly :). Spirit Mountain, the ski resort, is nothing special but I've also seen much worse. Highway 61 extends along the north shore up to thunder bay and is one of the most scenic drives ive ever been on, especially in the summer and fall. About 2.5 hours to the NW is the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness which people travel from all over the world to canoe into. Fishing is also quite nice. The bad news, its all at least 4.5-5 hours away. Pretty doable for a weekend trip though, especially in the summer time. Part of my reasoning for coming to UND was to be closer to the area.

Maya Mexican Restaurant! Pretty authentic Mexican food. I went there after one of my long cross-countries in 221. Took the crew car and explored Duluth. Very pretty town and it reminds me of San Diego and San Francisco (steep streets).

Never been to that one, i was referring to Lil' Angies down by the boardwalk. they do have some pretty nice restaurants in that town though. The steep streets are cool in the summer, seen lots of accidents in the winter when they are iced over. Luckily Duluth salts the •! outta their streets in the winter. As your driving there on highway 2 right when u hit the town you come over the hill and have a view of the entire harbor, pretty sight. Like i said, a mini-San Francisco.
