Emirates recruiting in the USA

Hi!

The 55 tonnes applying to the 2500 hrs may be correct. EK has more than one minimum requirement for new hires, that they do not post on their website.
Why? I have no idea.

When they re-started hiring last year, you needed 4000 TT and some time on a jet over 55 tonnes. That requirement WAS published. It was subsequently changed. It excludes the DC-9-xx/737-200s and smaller aircraft.

We had people hired at Emirates recently, and the largest thing they've flown was a CRJ-900. One of them was (gasp!) female.
 
How about a guy with 2500+ TT, 600+ Turbine PIC in a Caravan...That GREW UP IN DUBAI?!?!?

Yes I've been to two informational sessions, one being 2.5 years ago and then the more recent tour.

They were very similar, attempting to give you a real summary of life in Dubai and at Emirates. They didn't hide the fact that currently the pilot group is somewhat disgruntled, they placed the blame on poor staffing currently thus the reason for the tour, to hire pilots.

It still seems like a classy operation with good pay and perks. The giant question for me at least being, is it worth leaving family here just for a job. Fortunately I haven't had to answer that question which leads me to...

There is still a 30tonne requirement which the recruiters stated they are trying to get changed. Ultimately it's not their decision but those above them, however they see no reason why RJ pilots should be excluded. I tend to agree, they have no PIC requirement yet they have a weight requirement. So a 3 year 170FO meets the requirements but a 6yr 145/CRJ Captain doesn't. The Captain at the info session (a Canadian) agreed that RJ Captains do have quite a challenging job given the conditions in the US.

So for now it's wait and see.

Definitely not true. Minimum total time for Emirates is 4000 hours. The only pilots hired with less than that are the Cadets and they are all UAE nationals. Maybe another airline.

I'm instructing in South Korea right now, and was recently in a training class with a bunch of Korean Air expat pilots, and the majority of them had been flying for Emirates. They said it was good for the first 2 years, but they had a management overhaul and the place in now a disaster. Scheduling problems, organizational problems, and the fact that they bend and twist their words when it comes to their contracts. Keep this in mind. If any of you are thinking of going, send me a PM as I have a 777 KAL captain friend who came from Emirates.
