I'm at Auburn right now finishing up my Junior year and was in the exact same shoes you were in. I went and toured ERAU down in Daytona Beach and though they did have a lot of fancy equipment, I did feel the sense that it was nothing but a bunch of dudes and no fun (no offense). Auburn is GREAT and if you're looking to have an awesome college experience (party, beer, girls, FOOTBALL) and get your flying in you'll love Auburn! We have a full motion simulator that you'll get the very basics of flying first and then you'll fly the C-172R for private, and then you'll transition into the C-172 SP (equipped with the G-1000) for instrument, then into our Piper Arrow for Commercial, and then we have two Piper Seminoles for multi-engine training. We also have a Flight Team that travels across the south east and competes in flight competitions. You have to spend some of your free time washing the planes but you do get free flight time out of it!
As for the business side of the course, I'm enrolled in the Professional Flight Major which is the business and flying combined. You'll do your typical 5 day classes with flight-labs, which is your flight lessons, scheduled in between classes. So say you have a 9AM English class, 11AM flight Lab and 2PM Math class. You'll go to that class at 9 then go out to the airport for your flight (usually last about 1.5-2 hours), and then head back to campus for class at 2. The only downside is that their is no bus system that runs out to the airport so if you don't have a car it can be a pain in the ass. With Auburn's flight department, the ground school classes are counted as a regular college credit, so you can take your Private ground school course as a class on campus. At the end of the semester you'll take your FAA written for your "final exam", so it works out pretty conveniently.
If you're trying to decide where to go based on college life, it's a no-brainer! Auburn is awesome! Though you don't get to see jets take off from Daytona Beach International, they don't get to cheer alongside 86,000 other drunk football fans on Saturday! The people here are super friendly, the night life is great, the campus is beautiful, and if you're looking to get into the AFROTC we have the one of the best detachments in the country!
Hope this helps, if you have any other questions just hit me up man.
