Electronic Logbook Recommendations

I use Flightlogg.in here.

Only complaint I have is that it tallies up P2P XC hours but not 50nm+ hours, which would come in handy.

Or maybe I'm doin' it wrong.

killbilly-i got the same problem before, and i made a post in the forum on flightloggin, and the admin said-when I enter airports, like Ada, if all I do is go around the pattern, and I enter ADH-LCL, flightloggin doesn't know where LCL is, so it thinks it's beyond 50 NM and everything becomes XC time. don't know if that helps you, but hopefully it does. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I've been using Logbook Pro for nearly 11 years and love it. As said earlier, filling out 8710's, checking currencies, filling out insurance forms, printing and binding your Logbook couldn't be easier. Plus with Logbook Pro, once you bought it you own it. They don't charge silly renewal fees every couple of years and lock you out of your data. They also don't constantly change version numbers to generate sales for updates. For the past 11 years all their Logbook Pro updates have been free to licensed users. They even store your registration codes for you.

For you Iphone lovers out there you can use Flogger to track your flights and then import the file it generates into Logbook Pro. Just check the app store.

And that right there is why I want to keep my logbook on my own computer, with backups off site.

Flightlogg.in sends you a comma-delimited file with all of your data every week via email. If you use a free web-based email service like gmail you have the off-site storage part solved. You can even set up gmail to forward the email to another service like hotmail for redundancy.

Even if your flightlogg.in account disappeared, you could recreate it in five minutes with the backup file.

Wait, huh? Pretty much the only hold back (other than AT&T wanting to charge me $500 since I'm in the middle of my contract) on getting an iPhone is it's a pain to import from LogTen Pro, and I'm not gonna be buying a MacBook anytime to sync LogTen Pro to the computer version.

Who said anything about Logten Pro....Flogger's file can be imported into Logbook Pro.

Logten Pro is the flagship LBP "replacement" for the iPhone everyone normally touts. However, it's a pain to import it into LBP. If Flogger imports no problem, then my resistance to buying the iPhone is futile.

I dunno... up until this year, there just wasn't anything as "cool" but between the WebOS phones (Pre/Pixi) and the Droid, I'm thinking the days of people justifying the crappy AT&T coverage and WAY overpriced plans are sort of almost over.

I've had AT&T since about 01, and I don't have any problems in the MEM area or Orlando. Haven't had many problems on the road, either. Maybe I'm just the lucky one. My parents couldn't even get their T-Mobile phones to get more than 1 bar at their own house. Sprint in this area is notoriously bad, too.

flightloggin does send an email backup to you each week if you like...

Being free, that's what I use. Since I still keep a paper logbook, it makes it easier if you set the number of lines per page to match the paper version.

Works like a champ. And is was said before, with the email backup sent to gmail, if it went away someday, it would take you all of 30 seconds to import it into another electronicl logbook.

With all the talk about iPhone integration, does anyone know of any Android logbook apps out yet? So far I love Android as an alternative to apple since I'm not on AT&T, but the app market still has some catching up to do.

Yup, they just changed it. Its awesome, and now that it has all the new features, it works really well. Lots of cool stuff that you couldn't do before, including all kinds customizable charts/images.

I agree with you, I have had ATT since I can't even remember and I have never had any problems with the service. Wireless carriers are like regionals. They all may be a little different but most suck pretty equally. The wife has a personal iPhone and a Verizon blackberry for work and ATT has full bars in places where Verizon doesn't get service and vice versa. People buy into all the propaganda they see on TV a little too much. Most people that bash ATT have never had ATT and most people that hate Verizon don't have Verizon.

I'll put another vote in for Logbook Pro. I like owning the software and email myself the file periodically for an off site backup. Love the program, and used it to apply and get hired at a major FWIW. ;)

If Apple/ATT have some strong competition then they should be forced to compete and actually fix some bugs and dropped calls. Up until now they pretty much had no competition. I have flow with guys that have the Iphone and they love it. They have service is places my VZW phone doesn't and I have had service in places they didn't, so it is a crap shoot. All the guys I know that have ATT have the same gripe. Customer service stinks and a lot of dropped calls. With VZW I have great service but no iphone, locked out phones features, over priced web fees.... I am probably going to to switch to ATT and try them out. I am getting tired of VZW arrogant attitude.
