Electronic Logbook Recommendations

I want to make an electronic version of my logbook. The main purpose is to give to a future employer along with my paper copy. I have also found my Multi and Single time added up are a few tenths off what my total time is, so I made an error somewhere.

What would people recommend? I see FlightLoggin is pretty popular. What about logbook pro?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Electronic Logbook Reccomendations

I love logbook pro. I have the proffesional version so i have it both on my home computer and my laptop. Does all the calculations for you and keeps track of currency and 121 and 135 times.

Re: Electronic Logbook Reccomendations

If you have the money spend it on Logbook pro. If you don't, just make up an excel spreadsheet for your self and once you do have the money, buy logbook pro and import your spreadsheet.

They are working on the new version of the software. No idea when they will release it though.

Re: Electronic Logbook Reccomendations

I use safelog. I get it on my computers, my iPhone, my blackberry and it keeps track of all legal currencies.

Re: Electronic Logbook Reccomendations

I have Flight Level 2003, which is okay, but I'm thinking about transitioning to Logbook Pro (if it imports easily) since the printed out product looks more like my paper logbook.

Re: Electronic Logbook Reccomendations

Logbook Pro + APDL = zero hassle. I was keeping a paper logbook as well, but it's full now. I really haven't even thought about getting another paper logbook.

try flightlogg.in - it's free and works great

I like Logbook Pro also.

Been using it since 2005, and its a great to organize information, sort reports, get specific times and so on.

And if you set up details about some aircraft you fly, it will automatically fill in the rest.
For example, anytime i start a entry for the CRJ, the flight time I enter automatically gets transferred into Aircraft Multi Engine Land, Cross Country, SIC, and so on. Of course it is something different, you can go into each column and adjust the #'s.

Its a pretty handy program.

Before Logbook Pro, i was typing my logbook into an Excel spreadsheet as a backup if something happened to my paper logbook. I'm glad to be done doing that, and have been pretty happy since.

Re: Electronic Logbook Reccomendations

I was using excel since its free. Then I found this http://www.cheappilot.com/ works great. Every so often I send it to myself via email and save it as back up.

excel is not free

and to the OP, whatever you do, use a free one. Don't pay for something that you can get for free. Its like paying 80 bucks for a web browser. I personally use flightlogg.in and its just as good, if not better than Logbook Pro (haven't tried the others). But if you do end up using Logbook Pro, please for the love of god do not use their overpriced online backup thing. Just use Dropbox or something, which is better and costs nothing.

Re: Electronic Logbook Reccomendations

I just make a simple spreadsheet using excel, don't even have a paper logbook anymore, but then again I'm not trying to prove signoffs or licenses anymore to an employer since I'd be coming from a 121 company. If you'd like a copy of my logbook, feel free to PM me, I've got all the formulas in there for flight totals and such.

Re: Electronic Logbook Reccomendations

Logbook Pro isn't free, but I tell ya. I had about 10 guys in my upgrade class extremely jealous that I didn't spend time the night before filling out an 8710. All I had to do in Logbook Pro was click "8710," and it filled the form out for me. It's also got a nice way to display stuff. If I'm filling out an application that wants TPIC in the past 6 months, 9 months, or any other freaky combination, I can pick what I want displayed. Between that and the custom print outs, I don't feel like I paid $70 for something I could get for free.

APDL = Airline Pilot's Daily Logbook. It's basically an electronic "red book" with some report features. Nice thing is, it looks at your schedule and computes how much rest you're required and looks at Whitlow rules as well. It's saved me from being assigned illegal trips due to rest at least 3 times this year. The conversation was like this "No. You can't add that turn on to me. I only had 8:23 of rest last night. Adding that turn puts me over 9 hours in a 24 hour period of time, which means I would have only been reducable to 9 hours of rest." Scheduling: "Hold on......yeah, uh, nevermind." I think it's great for airline pilots, but for instructors or other GA jobs, I don't know if it's worth the money.

Re: Electronic Logbook Reccomendations

flightlogg.in has the same thing - for free

Eh, I looked at the web site. Not sure if I'd want to use a product with poor proof reading. Not sure if I have "APT minimums," but I know I have ATP minimums.

I'm not upset that I paid money for Logbook Pro, and I'd do it again because I'm happy with the product. YMMV.

The guy who runs it is in the process of upgrading it, and changing some of the output. The beta version adds lots of new features, some of which are really nice. I use flightlogg.in, coupled with their weekly excel email backup. I keep that backup in one place, and a running excel database on my desktop. 3 places, on top of the paper book.

Edit: Plus you get the cheesy little signature tag!

Logten Pro with the iPhone companion. Used to have Logbook pro and liked it but was keeping around an old dusty laptop just to use it on and I had an iPhone so no APDL. I was still using the little red logbook to keep track of times and would manually enter them into the laptop. As soon as I could afford it I got Logten Pro on the Macbook and am really happy. Just import schedule from crewtrac onto the laptop and it automatically syncs all flights onto the phone and it even puts the full pairings into the calendar on both the laptop and iphone. Also keeps track of your duty time and your currency right on your iPhone. If you have a mac and iphone I highly recommend it if you can't tell.

I got locked out of flightlogg.in. I forgot my password so they reset it and sent me an e-mail, but the link they sent me won't work. I did it again, but to no avail. Ugh.

And that right there is why I want to keep my logbook on my own computer, with backups off site.
