Effect of Phil Trenery Still Being Felt

Didn't someone ask about this in the last conference call? He said we're overstaffed with pilots right now, and that attrition will not do the trick.

I don't remember Menke saying it, I know PT used to always think 2 pilots in an airplane was 2 too many.

It's also a seasonal thing. During the summer people were being jr manned daily and open time was being offered at 200% with vacation cancellations. Now everyone goes into freak out mode and forgets those days just because they're crediting only 80 hrs/month.

C'mon people wake up and think critically about the state of the company and what makes sense before you start jumping on every rumor train!

*keep in mind my opinion is worth what you paid for it and we could all be jobless on jan 1.

If by the last call you mean Nov 3rd, why are we still hiring and have a need for close to 100 pilots according to 11-09 ? And dont give me that hire till we fire crap.

This airline is not overstaffed. Stop listening to Menke at all, listening to the company is counter-productive. Just STOP.

If you have questions call a union rep. If you don't have access to their numbers PM me and I'll get you the number. This listening to the company crap has got to stop. The only time you listen to the company is a Bulletin or a memo.

Our company does not lie to us Joe! How dare you say that!

I hope you get the sarcasm. :)

The royal "you", no worries bro!

The ONLY good thing I've seen come out of it so far is that the lobbying on the hill has increased a bit, although so far I haven't seen it get anything for us other than KCM. I'm happy to say that 80% of the votes I could influence went the other way but you're right... we are all part of the royal "you".

This is what a real CEO does. Unlike the crooks we have in this country

Menke will make over a million dollars in compensation this year, and even more next.

Has he come out yet and said that he will not take his $425,000 in stock or $250,000 cash bonus for 2112 yet? Even if he did not take these bonus items, he would stil have $425,000 as his salary. His bonus' alone is equal to $250 from each pilot

In the call he stated that he was cutting all bonus starting with his, and he is also taking the same pay freeze.

CEOs play this ploy all of the time. When he says "cutting his bonus," what does that entail. It is totally subjective. He may say that his stock options are not a bonus and part of his compensation. Hard numbers, that is what we need to hear.

I could run this place into the ground for half the price...say $212,000?

He talked about that briefly, I believe he said he was taking his base salary only, not stock or performance bonus. Once it's online we will have to listen again... But I'm pretty sure there isn't a represented group that would take a concession if he takes bonuses

After listening into the conference call, I have to admit, I kind of don't want to give any concessions in my pay. It would be one thing if I saw that the operation was efficient and as a last final resort they went after my pay to save the company, but I watch 10's of thousands of dollars just get wasted everywhere on a daily basis and don't really feel i need to subsidize that with a 2 dollar an hour decrease in my pay.

That being said, do we get a vote or say in any proposed concessions or is all of that agreed to by our officers?

And herein lies the problem. Wage concessions are faster than streamlining the operation. The Pinnacle way has been fat dumb and happy on the corporate side of things for years. We've got upper and middle management guys I have no clue what they do. Honestly, I think they have positions because they toady to the upper management and have friends there. At least a few of those are gone now. I'm still not sure why DW still has a job. He was supposed to be either sent some place else or seeking other opportunities in his career by now. He's still in his "screw the pilots" job, though. Why we're even running two separate airlines is beyond me. We've got the setup to have one management structure, and our unionized labor are all going to be on the same seniority lists. There's no reason to waste the $$$ by having a "Pinnacle" and "Mesaba" operation. Just have one, and who cares which name they pick.

Joe, I don't necessarily think MEM is a bad place to have a HQ. Real estate is cheaper than Eagan down here. The big mistake was going for prestigious downtown address with multiple floors immediately after buying an airline and before realizing the costs savings of the merger. You're right, though. That was ALL Uncle Phil and his desire to be a big man on campus in the Memphis business circles. I think that move is seriously hurting us financially. It should have been pushed back a few years.

As for not being able to handle the flying we have, I have to chalk that up to inefficiencies more than a lack of staffing, at least on our side of things. Most of the reserves in JFK and MEM hardly fly. If we can't handle our flying, then scheduling is dropping the ball. It's different than when all the reserves were flying and everyone was being extended into their days off. If I'm getting 18 day off lines, reserves are sitting in crash pads playing Call of Duty and we still can't cover stuff, then I don't thing wage concessions will fix a damn thing.
