Effect of Phil Trenery Still Being Felt

Yeah, you can do that if you want. Captain's authority and all. But it's a bit ridiculous when you have a device installed that is designed specifically for this purpose. Not to mention that you can't do it at the gate or if you're tight on fuel.

So, you're basically screwing over the passengers and your fellow crew members just because you want to stick it to the company and let their "inefficiencies shine through?" That's pretty screwed up. Take care of your passengers. Your attitude is the reason that it sucks so much to deadhead or jumpseat in the back of airplanes so often. Nothing worse than cooking in the back of a fully-loaded CRJ when it's 90 degrees outside just because the captain is too stubborn to turn on the APU.
You keep on saying captain, then talk to a captain. Take it easy on the FO's alright? Jeebus Todd it's Christmas.

Every FO is a captain in training.

Merry Christmas! Happy? ;)

This is very true. When you "poll" the FO and he/she says " I dunno" it only makes me think "WTH"!? A "group effort" is all about the current CRM mindset. That's both, even though 4 stripes means " it's all my fault".

I can tell that you were never a line check airman and/or worked in flight standards.:D @Steve- remember when I brought up APU usage in MSP? "You just think the back is hot because of your greenhouse up front."

At Mesaba every FO is a captain downgraded. You learn not to get real wrapped around the axle when the paychecks get smaller.

No, never wanted those jobs. Can't just do the parking check and make a run for the employee bus if you have to deal with all that paperwork. :)

As a checkairman? Our checkairmen are constantly dealing with paperwork. And they only get a 20% override. No way I'd put up with the hassle for that little override.
beyond filling out ioe time records, and line check forms, nothing else. I submit it via cell phone picture, and Most ioe guys have a pre filled line check form in their folder. I've never gone to the crew room or any place like that to deal with paperwork.

Nice. Pinnacle used to expect the checkairmen to do post-check briefings with the crew. Jumping off of the airplane and running to a flight home wasn't an option. They had multiple openings while I was a captain, but I never even applied because I didn't want to deal with the hassle. It would have been nice for the resume, though.

Yeah, that whole "conversation" was just a circular argument. I'm not 100% sure who that guy was (other than a flight standards rep), but I could tell he didn't fly the line a whole hell of a lot.....

we've been trying to make the standard dept. much "friendlier" Hopefully, we are able to effect change by guidance, rather than fear. We always give a debrief, but it's quick and usually highlights the good things, with a few suggestions along the way.

Now, of course an unsat is different, I'm not sure how most do it, but, I will talk them through the process of getting requal'd and make sure they understand exactly why they unsated the ride. An unsat IMHO is kinda a last resort. 90% of stuff can be debriefed, but if I see a significant lapse of judgement, intentional deviation from sop or profiles, or significant safety issues.. Then my hands are tied.

We have a bunch of pilots here that would be good for the program, but don't apply because they are afraid they will get yanked around, buried in paperwork etc... But in reality, it's now very easy to be an lca here

You guys under our training department yet, participate on the LCA calls and stuff like that?

no, we're still on Colgan island, but we are getting to know your guys. A few have come over to run sims and stuff... So we are getting there.
Yup I know the guys who run the sims, I see them a lot dropping them off in STL. I gave one of the guys I know well enough crap to take that Colgan wings thing off his leather jacket but he just smiles at me. Besides he's got a lot of reach on me.

Memphis-based Pinnacle Airlines last month announced that it had begun what it called a comprehensive program to cut costs and enhance liquidity, centering on initiatives to modify its agreements with mainline airline partners, equipment lessors, debt holders, real estate lessors and vendors.
The company also confirmed plans to introduce new cost concessions from its pilots and other employees, regardless whether the group in question enjoys union representation

Hence my avatar. The real Sean Menke please stand up. How about negotiating out pilot contract in bad faith knowing you will seek concessions less than a year after implementation. It must be the pilots fault PT was paid 3 mill to leave. It must be the pilots fault they need to spend an ass load of money on a new HQ building that doesn't solve any finacial costs. It must be the pilots fault they haven't streamlined the management structure and we have all of these people with titles that don't serve a real function. It must be the pilots fault Pinnacle contiunes to use the "thats the way we have always done it" mentality and waste money every where under the sun. It must be the pilots fault the Company treats the contract like the AIM and has a ton of grievences and other problems for their reluctance to accept their part of the deal they signed. We need the Bob's from Office Space.

PS Sean F.U.!!!,
Walt
