Eastern Kentucky University

Eastern Kentucky University is a great collegiate aviation program. Although it is not well known, it is a great place. I am currently a student there, and I am extremely happy. It is a relatively small program, so you really get one on one time with instructors, and you know pretty much everyone in the program. There are plenty of planes, so scheduling is not an issue. Their airport is a non-towered field, just south of the Lexington Class C airspace, so there are never ATC delays, and you get a lot of ATC experience in the class C and class B in Cincinnati. They also have a nice simulator, which you can log time in. The major selling point of EKU is the cost. Flight fees are extremely low compared to many other collegiate programs. You get the same education as other programs, for just a fraction of the cost. I would highly recommend this program to everyone, especially someone looking for a program close to home. The reason I am posting this is to help anyone looking for a collegiate program. I remember wanting to stay close to home, while getting quality aviation education. EKU was the place for me. If you are interested, check them out at their website.

Hi ~ I ran across your post because I am considering checking out Eastern's Pilot Program. I am curious....are you willing to share with me....were you able to get student loans and/or grants to pay for the classroom and flight tuition costs? Thanks a lot!

Well I don't know too much about loans and financial aid. I worked my butt off and saved up for years before I went to EKU. Unfortunately, I did not qualify for financial aid, which is insane because I can barely afford school but I haven't taken out any loans yet, which I will have to by the fall of 2012, if not sooner. Luckily, I get in state tuition which is significantly let than out of state tuition. All in all, each semester costs around $6,000-$7,000, with no flying. Flight fees vary, depending on level of training. I'm sorry I can't tell you much about loans, grants, or financial aid, but if you have any other questions, I will do my best to answer them.

Go EASTERN!! I'm a Aviation Alumni and they do have a good program. Cant wait to get back down there this fall for Homecoming.
