Eastern Kentucky University is a great collegiate aviation program. Although it is not well known, it is a great place. I am currently a student there, and I am extremely happy. It is a relatively small program, so you really get one on one time with instructors, and you know pretty much everyone in the program. There are plenty of planes, so scheduling is not an issue. Their airport is a non-towered field, just south of the Lexington Class C airspace, so there are never ATC delays, and you get a lot of ATC experience in the class C and class B in Cincinnati. They also have a nice simulator, which you can log time in. The major selling point of EKU is the cost. Flight fees are extremely low compared to many other collegiate programs. You get the same education as other programs, for just a fraction of the cost. I would highly recommend this program to everyone, especially someone looking for a program close to home. The reason I am posting this is to help anyone looking for a collegiate program. I remember wanting to stay close to home, while getting quality aviation education. EKU was the place for me.
