DUI Psychiatric & Psychological Evals?

Well, mine is done. I have to contact Washington to find out exactly what my next course of action will be. I don't know if they (Wash DC) makes the decision based on the results of my HIMS eval or do I have the doctors that conducted the HIMS send their results to the sponsoring AME in Miami, who then puts together my packet and then sends it off to the FAA for approval.

I think the eval went well. As far as the psychiatric portion....I spoke very candidly about my feelings and emotions. For me, getting medically certified is secondary. The primary goal is to make better life decisions and I believe that I've received that help.

As far as the psychological testing, man that can be draining. For instance, keeping a small line centered while trying to remember what the last number was that appeared in the box.:insane:

Definitely get one done by FAA approved doc!!! Trust me...
 
how do you find an FAA approved doc? i have called several substance abuse professionals around the area, but none of them say they are familiar with FAA standards or procedures. Still looking though... I also called my AME and asked him for advice, and am waiting for a response back.

If I remember correctly the closes HIMS AME evaluators to you may be in South Carolina. I could be wrong though. I would encourage you to wait until you hear from Dr. Forred.

Yeah I think they are tightening the noose. Someone I know got one in 2006 and was very fortunate, just got a letter from the FAA saying don't do it again.
 
I felt compelled to make additional comments concerning P&P (HIMS) evaluations, so Mr. Moderator and Dr. Forred, please bare with me.

For those who are about to undergo this type of evaluation, understand that this evaluation is not only used to identify and substantiate substance abuse issues, but also it used to paint a picture of who you are. I'm speaking of personality disorders. Persons who have or are dealing with substance abuse issues generally are diagnosed as having some sort of personality disorder.

My point is this, just because one may deal with the substance abuse issue, doesn't necessarily means that the issues surrounding the personality disorder have been dealt with. Talk to your HIMS AME and get as much information as possible. Some will be more helpful than others. Why is that? I don't know. Try not to let anything blindside you. Be prepared to go the distance!

Update:

This is an excert from an email I received from my aftercare counselor. I x'd out the doctor's name for obvious reasons.

I had a long conversation with Dr. XXXXXX, and in that conversation somehow came to the conclusion that you would be on your way in some different venues outside of continuing at Hanley in what you and I know is a path created strictly to honor some logistical requirements.

He is a champ by the way, and really on your side in terms of making sure that you becoming a pilot.

This was very reassuring and calmed alot of my fears. It finally looks like it just may happen. Again.......I'll keep everyone posted.

Right on man!!! I'm done with the psychological testing and should be seeing psychiatrist here soon.. I'll keep everyone posted as well..
