DUI Psychiatric & Psychological Evals?

Doc, is it possible to not have medical deferred/suspended/revoked with bac above .15 or above .20 (Federal Flight Surgeon) ?

I just requested a blue ribbon copy of my medical file from OKC. I should have it a couple of days. Should the results of my first HIMS (conducted May '09) eval be included in that file?

In most states that is extreme DUI. It is an artificial line in the sand chosen by legislators and the FAA follows the general legal trends.

Thank you for getting back to me with the doctors in town! Much appreciated and I will be getting a hold of them on Monday.
 
I went to the HIMS brief this year at the ALPA Air Safety Conference and they were talking about some changes to the process, the different limits etc. I think they are looking at the elevated BAC levels for DUI as a possible dependency issue. I remember the HIMS folks saying that the FAA had tightened up the rules this year and it could take some people upwards of six months to get through the process.
 
If you enter HIMS, it will take a minimum of 6 months to get through. I have some guys who were such heavy drinkers that it took 12 months for their brains to function normally. HIMS AME's try to insure you will get approved when the packet is submitted. If there are issues that may lead to a denial, we would rather have one wait a few months rather than be told they cannot re-apply for a year.
 
Well I'm going to get everything started. Meeting with HIMS AME next Thursday and have apt. to begin the testing and evals on the 26th. Hopefully everything will go good and the FAA will see that there isn't nor has ever been any dependence. This is definitely going to cost me some money which with not working is going to be tough. The main thing is I love flying and money problems now, hopefully, will be just a set back for now.

Yeah, I can remember from an earlier post that you stated that some of your clients can be in the HIMS program for up to 3 years.

I do my P&P on the 11th and 12th of this month. I am experiencing some anxiety and nervousness. Given the gravity of the outcome, I would assume that this is normal.

Can someone explain to me what the HIMS program is? Ive seen it mentioned alot of this site. I thought if someone had a DUI they would just get a substance abuse eval and they would decide off that. Is HIMS for someone who they determine from the substance abuse evaluation has a problem and HIMS is a oppurtiniy to turn things around?

Disclaimer I do not have a DUI I am just curious in the process and why it is done.
 
i just got a letter from OKC requesting an evaluation from a "certified substance abuse specialist, or addictionologist." Does this have to be an FAA approved CSAS or can I go to one at the local hospital? Thanks!
