Drop Foot

I had the fortune of experiencing a herniated disc at my L4-L5, the nerves were pinched so severely that I was also diagnosed with drop foot on my right side. After nothing seemed to offer relief my Dr suggested surgery to avoid permanent paralysis of the nerves. I am 5 weeks out of surgery now and I feel like I have regained a lot of strength in my leg, however I am still unable to heel walk. So I was wondering what kind of impact this could have on my medical if any? I can lift my foot and have a full range of motion, it just cannot bear my body weight.

You will need to allow more time for recovery. It may take several months. As far as flying, remember you must be able to fulfill your duties inthe aircraft as well as those in emergencies. If your drop foot prevents this, you will have to either stop flying for a while or request a medical flight test to see if you qualify for a medical certificate
