Dreams about flying?

My dreams often have females in them. Guess I'm the only one?

Just so you understand they look kinda like this.

I had a dream the other day that I was PNF in the Hawker, and after takeoff power was set, there was a big split between the engines, and I called for an abort, but the PF didn't abort. I don't remember how it ended.....

But to answer the OP's question, yes I have flying dreams. Sadly they are always based in fact, and never fiction. It would be much cooler dreaming I can fly like a bird, or that I fly an airplane load of porn stars and they really need someone to help them out with their carnal needs in flight....

I dream out TV show style dreams sometimes. Like I am watching a TV show and part of it. Like last night this crazy dream where I was fighting these guys with guns, not sure what kind, but pretty badass types. They were taking the place hostage somehow. And they had some girl hostage in the back room. And I got some high powerful riffle or semi-automatic or something. And I could see the guy partially through the door and was going to start kicking butt but the trigger wasn't working or something. I was worried about the kickback I remember. They bad guys started shooting and I could not shoot back so I was being all cool-action-movie-guy-getting-shot-at-but-has-no-gun. I was jumping behind stuff as gunshots rang trying to shoot my broken gun--or gun I could not shoot. I remembered I was trying to see if the safety was on but could not figure out how to do it. Then I woke up just when I was about to kick their butts--this really would sound better without the profanity filter.

Just kidding of course. ;) I think Shelley saw his own and died soon after. So I read. It's interesting as the great poet died far too young and such a tragic death.

[Shelley] still considered one of the greatest poets of the English language, encountered his doppelganger in Italy. The phantom silently pointed toward the Mediterranean Sea. Not long after, and shortly before his 30th birthday in 1822, Shelley died in a sailing accident - drowned in the Mediterranean Sea.

Whatever the case, it's a commonly known fact about the tragic death and one some literary geeks may not dismiss immediately. Me, I'm not sure. Creepy though. Beware of death! :)

@CK, I think someone wants to be extended.

I think I won the lottery, somehow. I've been unable to dream of not flying because I'm uh, not. I'm not flying, I mean, not Not Flying. Some people might think they've been forgotten, or maybe that no one wants to fly with them because of the smell or their own special brand of incompetence. Not me. I reckon we're coming up on the busy season, and I am absolutely glorying in my time sitting around. Because in a month or two, it's going to TEB-PBI-TEB-PBI-TEB-PBI etc etc etc, ad infinitum. Extend me later!

The flying dreams I have always involve some weird ass airplane with an autopilot that is disconnected by popping the red balloon and activated with a paperclip. As a passenger I once hopped out of a crashing airliner just 2 feet before it impacted the ground and just walked away.

It is very rare for me to have aviation related dreams/nightmares (or nightmares of any kind for that matter), but I have had the one where I had to take off of a road with millions of powerlines crossing. I had one a few nights ago that involved ejecting out of a military aircraft, and I went through every single step of the ejection/post ejection checklist to include getting out the survival radio and calling up lead to let him know we were both ambulatory...rather odd since it has been nearly 5 months since I have flown in an ejection seat aircraft.

The dreams I do remember are usually very elaborate and intense, and do involve airplanes every once in a while. However, I don't remember a single dream where I was flying as a pilot or even a passenger. I've had dreams where I've seen planes crash(including one a few weeks before 9/11 where I walked around American and United 767-200s destroyed sitting in the same smouldering pile of dust and rubble), but despite how often I daydream about flying and read NTSB reports, I never have dreams like those you guys posted. My only recurring dream themes are zombie or otherwise post-apocalyptic nightmares, and, you know, sex.

On the subject of dreams, I do have a tendency to occasionally have random people I haven't seen or even thought about in years randomly appear in my dreams the day before I bump into them. Usually on my way to/from work at SFO. Intuition and stuff I guess. Comes in handy because if it's a cute girl, I know to try and not look homeless that day. :)

It's probably a sign that I shouldn't be doing this professionally, but I don't dream about flying at all, at least that I'm aware of. They say you only remember the last dream you have. So maybe I've been dreaming about wires and crashes and stuff constantly, but they're just too far up in the queue. As far as I can remember, though, I just dream about pretty girls doing unspeakably naughty things and leading my post-apocalyptic band of miscreants to ever greater plunder.

Well, those things and Gulley, obviously, but I'm sure that's true of all of us.

The sex dreams are easy enough according to Freudian dream theory (if there actually is such a thing), but I wonder what the crossing wires and all that signify. I'm not into "dream interpreters" but I do find Jung interesting. I am not sure if his thoughts have been dismissed as quaint and primitive by modern psychology but it's interesting that so many pilots are having these dreams about the many wires crossing in front of them.

I'm not well educated on psychology, but didn't I read that most modern psychologists pretty much think that most of Freud's theories have been discredited at this point?
