Don't be this guy...

But some are from the "you can't make this stuff up" files

Dear lord.... give him phonetic. TTT, SOLDO, UIM. He kept saying "soldo" when the guy clearly didn't understand it. It was bad, but he did contribute in making it worse.

I had San Jose, Costa Rica control give me a hilarious one a few years ago. We were on an arrival and cleared to descend via STAR which joined the ILS final a few fixes in. All of a sudden, "Delta 411 heavy, cleared to PARZA intersection, EFC xxxx."

(looks on chart and ILS and FMS waypoints along route of flight... nothing)

Uhh... where is PARZA and what is the phonetic for Delta 411 heavy?

"PARZA"

"ok yes, I get that, I need the phonetic spelling, I need individual letters."

"PARZA"

(mutters explitive)

About that time papers are flying in the cockpit... finally I find it on the wayyyy extended ILS final.

"oh ok, papa alpha romeo zulu alpha, confirm for delta 411?"

"royer"

*sigh*

Who actually wastes their time with VFR flight following? Being as low priority as it is, and the fact it doesn't really buy me anything, I don't ever bother with it.

In all fairness, he is a flight instructor, an arrogant and not so smart one, but anyway... so he could have had a student in the plane and it was a lesson? That's all I can think of.

I see this as a beautiful example of an Mr Longsleeves telling someone to " get off my lawn! "

I did when I flew aerial survey. Easier for controllers to know what I'm doing buzzing through their airspace for 8+ hours a day. On cross countries I'd do just because I was bored and wanted something to listen to :)

I prefer you get flight following if for no other reason I know wtf you're doing and don't have to guess and vector all around you. Especially those donkey holes who fly 100' under the bravo through final squawking 1200. One day I just want to not see one and fly a 777 right over them. Also bad is the 1200's who fly at a hard altitude rather than +500. I seriously hate those pilots with a burning passion.

Helps with traffic in the busy NE area (Philly/NYC/DC), that's why I usually pick it up if I am VFR. If you speak the speak as an IR rated pilot and treat it as such to an extent, they are usually pretty amicable in giving you flight following with Bravo transitions and even shortcuts if you're not direct.

I always used to use it and had good luck with it. Smooths the way if you're going into a class b or busy c airport and gives another set of eyes for traffic.

To be fair if there is a final that puts traffic right at the bottom of the B, wouldn't it make more sense to modify they B than to complain about folks who are staying outside it?

That makes perfect sense. Changing the Bravo literally requires an act of congress. And guess who flies private planes? People with money. Guess what's never going to happen? The bravo being lowered. At least not til there's an accident. Typical aviation. But it goes back to the whole "just because something is legal doesn't make it smart/safe." And again, if they would just fly at a +500 altitude rather than a -100 altitude, all would be well!

Did he just refer to his CFI certificate as a degree in "flight training"....

I've never heard that before but that's one way to word it for a resume...lololol
He could have gotten an associates or bachelors under the same name, where I got my private they had an associates called "Air Pilot Training Technology" that sounds more absurd than a degree in flight training, tbh
