Dollars for Delta Dumping

Down range of Baikonur Cosmodrome (which is actually in Tyuratam, but I digress) is yet another USSR-related environmental catastrophe. This one is related to hydrazine, evidently. Littering the steppes with rocket parts has rather bad environmental consequences.
You’re probably aware but the Chinese had a BAD accident in ā€˜96 that took out a whole village. Covered up the actual figures but likely killed 100+

Aircraft are generally insured externally, but everything else, including health insurance is self-insured.

Like I have UHC but I don’t have UHC. UHC just administers the companies self-funded program. So when the bill comes, the company pays via the UHC sock puppet.

So when most large companies scream ā€œpremiums are going up!ā€ Are they thooooo? :)

But even then, $78 million is barely even chump change, especially when you can amortize it over years to maximize the tax benefit, potentially write it off entirely or use it for an other operational write off.
I know someone who's an Asst. Director for UHC/Optum and his unit advises your DL. UHC account managers.

Corporate insurance policies are nothing like consumer insurance policies. You’re oversimplifying something you don’t have a basic working knowledge of.

But this isn’t the first time you’ve done this, is it?

Please save me the effort, stuff yourself in the locker and we’ll call it a day.

You can look at a financial statement on your own time, it’s not my job to spoonfeed you readily available information.

Ah yes. Corporate insurance is different, you’re right my bad. They just get to pay out massive millions for fuel dumps and other random issues across the industry and the money comes out of thin air.

This is said with all due respect but...these kinds of arrangements are typically more detailed, and employ people in their design that are paid well for having an attention to detail that allows complexity that exceeds say...click bait Rupert generated Daily Mail headlines. If the system was as poorly thought out or haphazard as you imply there would simply be no companies that could survive a catastrophic loss. It was 20 years ago today that Katrina hit. How many large companies with significant operations in the New Orleans to Biloxi corridor went under due to that massive catastrophe? I'm not talking small biz - talking large corps.

Here. I’ll give you what you want.

ONG panic on campus! The end is near! That 78 million was a CRUSHING BLOW and I don’t think we’re going to recover. We’re thirsty for ALK to acquire us and staple our corpse to the bottom of their list. Halp! Halp!

How’s that increase in oxytocin?

oh yeah I remember that day because I interviewed the day after. Thankfully I don’t think anyone brought it up as what not to do… anyways 5 1/2 years later is crazy because I remember it like it was yesterday…

Probably not as bad as the chinese dump on themselves

Seems weird there was no self-destruct on this (or at least not used). Just drop ordinance on yourself instead.

Though, I guess destroying a giant rocket not that far over your head wouldn't lead to much better results.

I have been typing pragmatic, level-headed and businesslike replies. Primarily so I can remember how. Secondarily, to educate @jhugz who has previously inquired about some insurance arcania I know. And lastly, I am going for a repeat of my High Poast Quality Award of 2025 Championship. If I win three consecutive times the trophy is retired.

I didn't think I could be more embarrassed to work at ALK... šŸ˜”

One rando trip FO hands me one of these. ā€œHey cool. Thanks bro. Yo wait what is this about?ā€

It’s a dig at Delta. There are stickers that are less subtle.

So I’m just holding this thing wondering what to do with it and it makes me sad because I know the Delta dudes are like this:

I vaguely remember this actually, I think I saw video of it. There’s no way that the official toll is anywhere near correct if it’s the video I’m thinking of.

Some of the USSR’s environmental catastrophes are really spectacular. Andreev Bay, Mayak (of course), and down range of Baikonur…

Lawyers … good?

I just mean, as a thought exercise, what would a hidden catastrophe look like here?

This is quite accurate.

Same response to Americans ā€œKDAā€ stickers.

But whatever keeps your employees placid, productive and helps retention.
