“That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” Neil Armstrong captivated the world in 1969 when he became the first person to walk on the Moon.

Today in 1969: Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first humans to set foot on the moon during Apollo 11, the first lunar landing mission. Michael Collins was the Command Module "Columbia" Pilot and was alone for just under a day while Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the moon.

Happy 46th Anniversary Apollo.

I have no doubt that if humans still exist 500 years from now they will know the name Neil Armstrong. But I also think 50 years from now people will know Eddie Van Halen and Harrison Ford, just as people know the names Louie Armstrong and Gregory Peck.
It's one of my earlier memories. Watching this at night on a black and white TV with my mother.

Seriously people? Glen Miller died long before I was born. Jimmy Dorsey not as long, but I still know who he is and admired his music. My daughter was born after Kurt Cobain's death but she knows the sound of Nirvan and has seen the Stones in concert (her request for her 18th birthday). Some of you don't know the name Eddie Van Halen???
