Do you remember . . . " The Eagle has Landed . . . "

Are they touring with Justin Bieber? Alanna was afraid to ask.

To be fair, I freely admit to like, no cultural awareness and bizarre taste in music.

Discover Van Halen. Hell, discover music from the 60's thru the 80's, if ya haven't already. Some of the music wasn't to shabby, some of it was fingernails on a chalk board.

Confession: I had to Google Eddie Van Halen.

I was almost ready to get myself banned by the use of profanity but luckily I got myself cooled down.

Seeing stuff like this and having step-kids really makes me understand old dudes who want to hear nothing out of these young kids.

Ok, I'm curious...elaborate.
Elaboration: nerd growing up under self-imposed rock develops odd music taste!
Writing music: Gregorian chant, Celtic music (Ronan Hardiman, Tartalo Music, Lunasa...), trailer music (Two Steps from Hell, Immediate, Audiomachine, Brand X...)
Homework music: mostly 80's (Annie Lennox, all Rocky soundtracks/training montages), Disney (Tarzan/Lion King soundtracks)
Operating-heavy-machinery music: terrible Euro dance (...think Eurovision), pirate metal (don't ask (Alestorm)), mediocre Bollywood soundtracks, misogynistic dance music (e.g. Pitbull)
Feel free to mock; I feel no shame.

Aww, all over a dude with big hair and a cool guitar? I haven't even been shouted off someone's lawn yet--thanks for letting me know despite that shortcoming, I am still fulfilling my whippersnapper potential ;)

He's not a guy with big hair and a cool guitar. He's not the best player ever, but he's extremely talented and recognized for that by the majority of THE WORLD. That's something a lot of famous people can't claim, TALENT. He should be remembered for that and it is weird to me that you can be into other 80s music but not know someone who has actual musical talent. And I'm about positive Tarzan and the lion King came out in the 90s.

I was being facetious. Difficult to convey through the Internet.
Again, I don't claim to have good taste or even basic knowledge of what constitutes talent in music. I gladly leave that determination up to you and others with more experience! I just listen to music that appeals to me, and I don't worry too much about why it does.
(And yes, I think you're right about the Disney music, hence why it was not grouped with the 80's)

Ditto that. Ed took guitar playing, and players to a entirely new level. The guy is like a mad scientist when it comes to tone, guitars and music. A true musician that is finally being recognized for all of his tremendous accomplishments. He, and his gear were just inducted into the Smithsonian this past march. And even though the guy has written some of the heaviest riffs in Rock and roll, written sappy pop songs and a a few failures along the way, Edward is a pretty incredible human. God knows he has chased his demons too.

I hope Alanna discovers, not only VH, but many of the other great things that happened on this planet before she was born. Lots of cool history out there in music, science, flight, political and medical, just to name a few.
:)

Well my intent is probably difficult to convey through the internet as well. I am not that judge mental of poor taste or ignorance but I am a fan of hyperbole in certain instances. I do play several instruments, and because so many do I don't take a whole lot of personal pride in that, but I'm better than average at guitar(meaning I'm still nowhere near EVH's level.) I estimate I've spent about 6,000 hours practicing it so I feel that gives me a right to have an opinion on skill but I also really love a wide range of music that doesn't necessarily require "skills."

Also Van Halen NOT Van Haggar.
