Even simpler than that. In fact, it has nothing to do with the actual looks of the airplane at all, but rather its name...

Also designed by Al Mooney. Mooney designed it for Bill Piper after refusing to sell the M20 design to Bill..

Oh, and that is the prototype Comanche.

Well... legend has it that Al Mooney was flying an M-20 when he was forced down by weather, Pug Piper graciously offered him a hangar, which Al Mooney accepted and while he was away Pug Piper had his engineers pour over the M-20... resulting in the Piper Commanche!
 
Ctab got this one! Al Mooney actually designed the Comanche! Damn... that was way too easy.

Edit: Awwww crap on the monosport G... That should have been an obvious path to follow based on all the others.
