DIA Touch and go's

I have to complete the solo 10 take-offs and landings at night at a towered airport to fulfull the commercial requirement. I was thinking of having some fun with this and going over to DIA at around 23:00 some night to get them in. I'm hoping this would be late enough, and they'd be relatively slow enough to deal with GA. Has anyone ever been to DIA for touch and go's or approaches? Are they very helpful there for this kind of thing, or should I expect to be an annoyance. I've never landed at a Bravo airport and think it would be a great experience.

My back up would be APA which is open 24/7. I fly out of BJC, but they close at 22:00 and doesn't give me much time this time of year.

I usually have no problem getting into DIA with a student for at least one touch and go after 23:00. I have never remained in the pattern though. Not because I was told no, just have never asked to.

I assume you mean DEN? Several years ago, we tried this at KSDF but were denied. Only later did I realize that it was the UPS global hub, and nighttime is their busy time. I have been told that otherwise, if you sound like you have your act together on the comms, that most towers will oblige during their downtime. Maybe someone else has some specifics on where you're going. Landing on 10k'+ runways at night in a small GA aircraft is kinda fun, especially if you want to practice flying in ground effect without running out of runway.

Nice. I think I'll try it sometime this weekend or next week. Even if I only get a few in without being vectored around, I think it'll be worthwhile.

Call and ask, worst thing they can say is no - 303-342-1917. I would guess after 0200 local there ain't much going on, they might appreciate have something going on to keep them awake!

Someone once told me there was a landing fee there

10000 feet of runway is common out here. Den has 12000 runways and one at 16000'.

Around 0000 McCarran used to let us do right traffic 19R in the Seminole. Stop and go's fulfills the comm night requirement. It was fun flying right over the strip low level.

Yes Jason, DEN is the identifier, but everyone I know refers to it as DIA.

I'd have plenty of room for a stop and go, but I didn't see where the FAR's required stop and go's to meet the requirement. A DE told me touch and go's would suffice.

Thanks, I figured thats what you meant, not trying to count a technical or anything. I'm an East Coast GA pilot, not yet flying commercial.

No prob Jason. I'm not flying commercial yet either, but hope to soon. I just have to get a couple more requirements met and take the written.

Used to do this all the time with students flying out of Front Range and they've always been accommodating. Have fun!

One night at DTW, the tower was begging me to stay in the pattern at like 11 at night in a 172. I believe they have to work a certain amount of VFR traffic like this every so often so that fulfills that requirement.

I used to work the pattern all the time at PHX in the midnight hours. They didn't mind at all.

I have wondered if this were the case based on some of the stuff I have heard from Class B towers while VFR. I have had STL and MEM clear me for closed traffic (at all hours of the day) with out us even asking for it. Sometimes I stay just to entertain us both, but usually we just head off to our next destination.
