Any good sources. From what I understand the FAA is trying to figure out how to stick this to the 135 operators, and eventually us, so the Feds I work for are looking at us designing our own. Any references you may have would be welcome. Thanks.

Yeah that would work. Just looking for ideas right now. The SMS wasn't in place when I went to ASO school in Montery. You would be surprised how resistant this industry is when it comes to anything with the Military label.
Here are some references from the 8900. Even though they seem to be aimed at aircarriers, these are the guidelines the FAA has laid out for the inspectors to use.
I can prolly find some more, but these oughta be a good start:
I have no idea. However, if they do, these are the standards the inspectors will use for compliance. My philosiphy would be to build a program now to meet the standards and there will be less, um, stress, down the road....
It was mentioned at our SMS working group held by BLM/USFS, and that is why they are trying to get ahead prior to a mandate. But like any other program, you can put a nice one down on paper but until your sector has a culture change, it won't change a thing.
I think that Wyvern or ARG/US will be (or are) pushing 135 operators to adopt a program. I did a little bit of homework on this a while back, but promptly brain-dumped the info when I passed it along.
I think that the Canadians had some pretty good info. Let me take a look...
...yeah, take a look through this site for good background and examples:
A lot of these links above are a huge - particularly the actual FAA SMS link.
Not sure if you guys are looking for outside help, but I used to work for a great consulting firm in Houston that does SMS. Even though they specialize in process safety, the fundamentals are the same. Check out the SMS page on their website at http://www.rrseng.com/s_manage.php
I've never personally put together a full SMS, but was involved in many portions back when I was a fire and safety consultant. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions along the way.
