Deployment Question

Why would you be really pissed off? I mean, you're a cadet. I could see annoyed. But don't waste effort getting pissed off over this kind of stuff. Active duty AF (if you make it) will have enough ass-clownery to piss you off for a good while.

True story bro. Mike drink a beer for me, its been a long hot day.

Don't join the military as a plan B because you're having a hard time finding a flying gig. For some reason what you said above really pissed me off. You're a military officer first, pilot second.

So Cadet drew09, what do you know of being a military officer? A pilot second? Lighten up Francis....

geez, sorry everyone? I guess my attitude toward the military is skewed? But what do I know, I'm just a cadet :hiya:

No, its fine. All I'm saying is don't get extremely pissed over something like that. If you're planning to go AD, you'll need to save your pissed-off-ness for all the things there that are going to make you that way.

ie- bigger fish to fry with getting really pissed! :)

Deployment has changed little over the centuries, except that now we have internet and phone service.
From Die Weise von Liebe und Tod des Cornets Christoph Rilke
"…. Riding, Riding, Riding, through the day, through the night, through the day. Riding, riding, riding. And courage has grown so tired, and longing so great. There are no more mountains, hardly a tree. Nothing dares to stand up. Foreign huts squat thirstily at muddied wells. Nowhere a tower. And always the same picture. One finds that one has two eyes too many. Only at night does one sometimes believe one knows the way. Perhaps at night we always return to the stretch of road that we gained so painfully under the foreign sun? It may be. The sun is heavy, as it is during the depth of our summer. But it was summer when we took our leave."

lol, k dude

Drew allow me to intervene and give you some advice, which if you adhere to, will help you out immensely in your career as a Military aviator if you are lucky enough to get a slot.

Correct me if I am wrong but it seems you are mocking Bunk22. Bunk22 is an experienced Military pilot. You are a Cadet. The last thing you want to do is come off like a smartass to someone like him. Although you may not believe it, aviation is a very small world. Military aviation is even smaller. You do not want to start coming off as a smartass, even at your young age, even on the internet. At worst, you can rub someone wrong which will negatively effect your career at some point. At best, older experienced dudes won't like you (and most important) won't help you.

Part of being a Military pilot means hearing it as it is in the debrief. In this case, you were politely reminded by some dudes who have been there done that what your place is. It has happened to me and most everybody. You should probably say "ok, my bad, I didn't mean to come off like" or something to the effect. Don't try to be a smartass or quibble or anything. Just take away some valuable info, learn a lesson, and press on. It will benefit you in the future, I promise.

Another piece of advice which served me well is never pass up a chance to stfu. Your man pleaser will get you in more trouble than any other part of your body (sts). With that, I wish you the best of luck and every success in your career.

Old dudes, if you think I am way off base and this post sucks tell me and I'll just delete it and go back to reading the dash 1.

You understand that I said you're an officer first, then a pilot? Am I truly that far off? Honestly? From what I've been taught (and I'll admit, I'm just a cadet) you're a leader before everything else. Do you really think I'm in the wrong?

EDIT: If I came off acting like I knew everything, then that's my fault.

I agree with your point, but I think the message they were trying to convey is that you aren't really in a position to get upset over this kind of stuff yet. You are still a wannabe on the outside looking in to most people with wings on their chests. I'd reserve judgement about the attitude you should have in this business until you have a little bit more experience with the business itself. People may throw around the "officer first" line a lot around here (and it is a good attitude IMHO), but I know plenty of aviators who would readily admit to you that they wouldn't be here if they didn't get to fly.

You're fully correct. All I was saying is don't let that get you too pissed off what the guy said, since there will be plenty later for you to expend that effort on. :)

Point is, you're not an officer. You might very well be correct but who are you as a cadet to make that point? Granted, it's the net but with older, experience farts hanging around, like me, you may very well get called on it. In my eyes, you're a cadet and wannabe, plain and simple. Once you actually do something, the floor is yours. I'll take smack talk to a point from a wannabe, thick skin required. Guys like MikeD and Hacker can talk all the smack they want as they have been there done that. It's expected as well, the whole Navy v AF thing.

And when they get really out of control...Us real Army pilots will step in too set them both straight.

granted you have quite a bit of rank on me, but i'd just call him a cadet that is excited for what he is about to get into.....albeit a tad overzealous...... in terms of wannabe, we were all there at some point were we not?

No.

I was drafted to fly the A-10.

:D

oh my bad, some of us weren't as lucky ;)

here's a question you might know the answer to, say i wanted to learn how to fly those ugly things that the earth repels that you are currently doing on my own dime as in not for my career, is it a fast transition from fixed wing or what?

It's a complex transition and one that costs a good amount of $$$. It's simply a different way of thinking concerning flight controls and aerodynamics in some arenas. The more FW time you have, the more bad habits you have to break, person dependant.
