I don't know what I think on this anymore. When I got interested in dispatching majors were flat out not hiring. I visited many dispatch offices and talked to managers and dispatchers at the major I worked for all with the same response. You will have to go get experience. So I did. Let's fast forward 6 years. I'm at a different major because I gave up on my former carrier after 5 rounds of hiring without so much as a thanks but go f yourself email and 100 dispatchers hired with a quarter of my experience, including internals with 0.So to say I'm a little bitter about the leave to get experience camp would be true.
A former student of mine was faced with the same decision. Leave your mainline job and dispatch, or stay with your mainline job and try the internal route. My advice was if you want to dispatch then dispatch but you will throw everything away to do so and advised him of the risks. With my advice he chose the regionals.
A few weeks later one of my final students with a newly minted dispatch license was invited to interview at the major the former student left as an internal candidate. I felt terrible since I steered this student in the wrong direction and have regretted that advice ever since.
She's also not dispatching airplanes. She is service recovery. To get a flight position, we prefer people with experience.I don't know either it really depends on the company. Here at FX internals have gotten the jobs for a while now both in Maint Control where I work and GOC (dispatch) in fact we just lost a maintenance planner to dispatch she had zero experience as a dispatcher with a newly minted ticket. Also had a maintenance planner who left went to fly for Great Lakes got his 1000 hrs TPIC and was rehired into the same position he left and got an interview and pilot job here. FX has been very good about rehiring people who left to get experience then came back as long as you left on good terms.

She can after she meets her time in position requirements.....many people prefer to remain in a box spot since the pay is not any different and you get the same benefits and do less work.Thats true she is but can they not transfer from the box side to the flight side at some point. ?
Thank you av8or757/LX Sport/Kilo for your honesty. I'm literally in the same boat at a Top Major. With a similar story, and leaving is a difficult life decision. But it's the right choice in the long run. Reading this post was like looking at a mirror. That has cemented my decision. Now I'm looking into regionals, I had phone interviews with psa & endeavor, let's see what happens next. Good luckSometimes I just think of the hard work and time I've put in so far. There is no early out available. That can be very scary. I just 38 in February. So I start to l think of my age.
So many things, but you know you need to get that experience.
LX Sport reading your post was like reading my own thoughts ad situation.
So glad to know everything is working out positively for you. Gives me hope to see that others have faced similiar decisions.....and that it's not the end of days LOL
Likewise Kilo.
A number of people have a regional DX job and also work as a gate agent or ramper part time with a different airline, so there's that.
You got me all excited thinking that Delta was posting here soon haha
They're going like 5-1 internal the past year and a halfYou mean like from now on? Two people from my airline have made it on there...

If it give you any hope, I'm starting at United on the 25th. Still happy with my decision and now I'm moving on to the majors! Very excited.

I got an offer from T S A regional, class starts February 8. Pay starts 16/hr
Better than endeavor or PSA. My Atlas friends say I lucked out. Honestly I want to thank everyone on this forum for steering me in the right direction with your stories. I got my dx license September 2015. I talked to my dx friends at other places and they said have patience. And start at a small regional for experience. I looked all over the internet and forums like this one and read ALL of the important posts. And you guys & gals know your stuff. I literally just followed your advice posted and magic=hard leg work. I got called by 4 airlines within 2 weeks. So I would like to extend my humble gratitude and say that good advice does not fall on deaf ears on this site. Thanks to all.
