Delta to announce A321neo order

Looks like the ODM says 900 feet for dry conditions.

Ooh, and in SouthernJetsWorld, max manual braking is a shorter distance than "medium" autobrakes, but we're taught that it's not pressure, but the timing between touchdown and max automatic application.

However all manuals and operational philosophies vary from airline to airline. I remember when I was the Kung Fu Master of the MD-88 and sat in an AA Super 80 from PHX to DFW and wondered what world these guys lived in because they were doing everything absolutely wrong. :)

I thought Medium autobrake isn't max braking, whereas max manual assumes you steadily push the brake pedals all the way down and hold them there? At least that's my impression. You're right about different companies having different operating rules, at our shop, MAX Autobrake is a no-no for landing. Landing numbers are printed for Lo autobrake, Med autobrake, Max manual, and Min Reqd. Distance.

I probably said that wrong. Not the "Max Autobrake setting" but maximum braking application.

We're taught that there really isn't a difference between LOW and MED, it's just the time it takes between touchdown reaching the maximum amount of brakes the computer is authorized to produce.

But no, LOW and MED only, MAX only for takeoff.

I think there is a big difference in low and medium. The rate of decel is too much on med and not enough on low. IMO.

I only know this because I am still in school house mode.

LOW is a 4 second delay after activation and decelerates the aircraft at a maximum of 2 meters/second^2.

MEDIUM is a 2 second delay after activation and decelerates the aircraft at a maximum of 3 meters/second^2.

MAX (take off only... and on the newer model 32X (and maybe 3XX) this switch is inhibited in flight but can be "accidentally" selected during roll out on the ground) braking is applied immediatly after arming and to a max brake pressure consistent with antiskid.

All autobraking is limited to a maximum of .27G deceleration.

We’ll just use a true and tried process that worked once already. Ask any fNWA pilot. It only hurts in the beginning.

Not surprised you like the manuals

"Sitting in 27C, I couldn't help but notice the deceleration of 2.67 meters per second, so naturally I called the chief pilot's office to report it. What were these guys thinking."

:)

Yep Max manual braking is as good as it gets for landing in the BlueJuice Factory.

The timing thing sounds right (med come on sooner than low)......but low seems to be virtually nonexistent while medium tend to be "oh crap I better go manual or I won't even make it to the turn off."

I thought we’d throw Boeing a bone and split the order, but guess not. Hope you’re right about the C-Series....

In related news, Canada chose to not go forward with a deal with Boeing for the purchase of new F/A-18E Super Hornets, instead making a deal with Australia to purchase used F/A-18A/B (legacy) Hornets that are retiring for F-35 Lightning fighters.

Funny you should say that....know that little "LDG RWY" box on the inrange report? You'd fill that in and poof, your landing data would come with the gate info.

Viking sorcery I tell ya!

Duuuuuuude. I had no idea. 95% of the stuff I don't even tinker with.

I'm still trying ot figure out on the The Poodle's ACARS where "FAM" goes in the "MISC REPORT", which we don't have, in order to get delay information.

@Derg s LCA buddy chewed out a crew for their "unprofessional" taxiing while this gem was deadheading.

He's not my buddy. He thinks he's my friend but it's not mutual. All you have to do is look him in the eye, ask "are you done?" and then, if you're FO "I'll be more than happy to have crew scheduling send a replacement" or if you're CA "This isn't working out, go sit in the back". :)

Enough calls to crew scheduling to be replaced will solve the problem but I think he's got a flip phone so he'll never read the internets sentiment.

If he does my IOE, come watch the hilarity.

Seriously? Any LCA sticks their head in the cockpit other than to say “thanks” and “goodbye” is gonna get an earful and told to get the hell off my jet. No where in my chain of supervisors is LCA or instructor listed. Next guy above me is a CP.
Exactly. This guy is notorious though. Ask Derg.

Yes! I'll tell you my "Go sit on the flight attendant jumpseat, do this now and I'm not kidding" story offline one day. Different LCA.

Very. And he's only that way because people take it and don't put their foot down. I didn't and now he thinks we're best friends, which we're not. I figure if I'm going to get time off for standing up to a bully after 20 years of unscathed service to the company, well, I'll be more than happy to wrap burritos at Chipotle.
