Delta Flowthroughs and 35% ALPA DCI Hires

Everything in the dash is easier in the airplane than the sim... I mean EVERYTHING. I only wish I could turn the Autopilot on at 400' in an emergency in the sim. Our books says 1000'. We do everything from taxi out to taxi in with the YD on in the dash, doesn't have any effect on the rudder travel at all, just how fast it moves, with the giant tail and rudder the Dash has it would rip the thing off if you slammed on it.

IMHO, that's a recipe for disaster. If the sim isn't like the airplane, why bother training in the sim? Single engine in the CRJ, just turn the AP off and it flies just fine. Kick in rudder to compensate for the lost engine, and the AP will kick in aileron to compensate. Once I just turned the damn thing off, it flew just fine. Floated JUUUUUSSSST a bit on the landing, though. :)

A lot of dead horse beating going around.

You guys want to get back on subject and complain about who Delta hires, why you were not invited to interview, why you do not have an undergradate degree and how those pesky ALPA DCI pilots are going to get a job before you do at Delta.

Word of advice.

Don't apply then. Please. Thank you.

My question would be more like

"2200 TPIC, check airman, alpa volunteer, bachelors w/ cum laude, performed at carnegie hall, so why didn't I get called?" But maybe my phone will ring in the fall... who knows. Here's hoping! Just will be continuing to work on the networking front!

I actually wound up taking ALPA off my resume. Depending on who's doing the screening, it could hurt you. If it's a pro-ALPA guy, he's likely going to be impressed with the rest of the stuff on the resume anyway. If it's a management person screening them, it's likely not the best thing to have on there.

+1

I don't have any union work on my resume.

Maybe it was the individual sim, but I found the Dash-8 sim I used (at CAE Simuflite in Vancouver) to be very representative of the airplane.

I've never had ALPA on my resume (for the very reason mentioned), but it still hasn't stopped me from not getting a call. How's that for a double negative?

While union work on resumes is being discussed -- what are anyone's thoughts on safety positions? Same idea, or not?

Personally I see it as a bit different and something that if I were selecting people for interviews, would love to call someone in knowing that they are entrusted doing FOQA work or part of the ASAP program event review committee at their airline. I see that as a bit different than a base representative, contract committee, negotiating committee, etc.

Thoughts?

If you put ALPA safety related positions only on the resume you will be fine and highly suggest you put those on there.

I have my ALPA Safety work on my resume. Was a good topic of conversation during my last interview. Seemed to be fine because I was offered the job the next morning. YMMV....

Yeah, I could see that. Putting Grievance committee or contract compliance committee on there isn't really going to endear you to management people....
