Delta/Endeavor SSP Extended to All Pilots

Looks like they are getting desperate. They are now offering 20k a year in retention bonus, divided into 3 payments a year. Plus it's been extended to 4 years. So that's 80K extra in bonus money to stick around 9E.

I honestly don't understand the end game here.

That is a HUGE chunk of change to commit to. Now there are always ways out but still....

This money is coming straight from Delta's billion dollar a quarter profits right? So, at this rate, Delta can staff ENVR for quite some time...

I'm thinking that the money is not as HUGE as @bronco21016 thinks it is. Think about the cost of the JCBA With 3000 pilots. Then take the concessions with bankruptcy as well as the pilot group about half the size. If anything, this is still way below what the budget for that airline was 3 years ago.

I'm not trying to be a downer. I think it is great you guys are getting paid and that there is a more clear path for every pilot on property. Just don't under value your services. It's not HUGE money, it's money that was/is deserved for the job you do everyday.

That's pretty impressive. You can effectively add $20 an hour to Endeavor's pay rates which makes them the highest paying regional by far.

Fantastic step in the right direction. The era of low pay at the regionals is coming to an end.

WTF, where the hell was this 6 years ago?

I hope you are right. These bonuses are only for the next four years though. If they get made permanent for everyone from here on at Endeavor, or the pay rates get increased to match what the bonus rate is, then maybe it's the end of low pay.

I did some figuring, using a guesstimate at FO pay at Endeavor for four years as a FO vs two years of FO at PSA then two years as a CA at PSA, and the income is about the same. Except the PSA guy would have his 1000 TPIC done or nearly done. And if the bonus goes away after 4 years, Endeavor FO guy will fall behind in pay quickly from then on. Even if Endeavor guy gets $20k bonus for year 5, PSA CA is making more money. So, in the long run (brace for it, master of the obvious statement coming) I think new regional FOs would still be better off going to a quick upgrade regional if they can rather than Endeavor.

It's great for the guys at Endeavor already though. That would be enough money to wipe all my debt in two years and make up for lost investment time and such so far in my life. Hopefully it is for others as well.

If I understand it correctly, the company has to actually still be around in order for you recieve the bonus. Also, does your $20 figure include the damn near 50% that is taken from a bonus for taxes?

From a Turbo Tax article.

The IRS specifies a flat “supplemental rate” of 25%, meaning that any supplemental wages (including bonuses) should be taxed in that amount. If you receive a $5,000 bonus, under this rule, $1,250 (25% of $5,000) goes straight to the IRS. Using this approach, the amount of your bonus – whatever it is – is “singled out” from the rest of your income and taxed directly. Employers frequently choose the percentage method because it’s easy and mindless to tax the entire bonus at a uniform rate.

They're offering the option to contribute the entire amount into your 401(k). So that's $20 an hour one could defer into their retirement account without the 50% tax penalty.

It's taxed when you file as regular income.

In other words, you'd pay tax on it just like regular wages when it's all said and done at the end of the year.

For a Pinnacle FO that's what, the 10% bracket? J/k, sorta :).

Great analysis. However, 4 years is an eternity in this industry. The way the majors are hiring combined with the SSP program Endeavor might end up being a 2-3 upgrade. For a new 121 pilot especially one with bare ATP mins this is a very attractive deal.

Overall very positive sign for the industry. Lots of opportunities out there. With the amount of money Delta is throwing at Endeavor seems like they plan big things with the company, possibly industry changing. Would not be surprised if Delta pilots start being hired in College and placed at Endeavor upon graduation.

You should have become a boxing promoter.

This is just my opinion, but I think it's a bad sign... I can't see daddy Delta actually paying out that much. I think it's incentive to keep the wheels on the bus until they can get a plan B rolling. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see it as good.
