Delta drivers?

You've already dug your hole. Don't make it worse. Having respect for other crews means that if they leave their lights on at night, you say, it's night and shrug it off. That's what pros do. The other thing pros do is to NOT go on anonymous boards and lecture other pros. If you are operating in ATL, you need to be sure to put on your big boy pants.

I'm hardly anonymous here. And thanks for letting me know to put my big boy pants on.

Welcome to the forum. Nice 4th post.

I've always liked the landing lights on the mad dog. It's like instant day light. The CRJ just illuminates stuff right before you're going to hit it.

The issue with those lights is that they drop down out of the bottom of the wing, which is cool, but they have to be focused pretty regularly or else they don't point exactly where they are supposed to or, even worse, one is correct and the other one is pointing somewhere else.

It's really a lot more simple than that. When we are sitting there nose to nose, turn the damn thing off. When you start your turn, or see a reason for safety, turn it back on. When you're aiming you lights at me for more than a minute, you've been sitting still for as much time, now you're just being an inconsiderate dick. (Not you specifically, just the guys that do it)

Noted.

As long as it's consistent with what the boss wants, I'll take it into consideration.

The butt hurt is strong with this one.

Relax man. Pull up a chair, grab a beer, and quit being a weenie. We're not like that around here.

Seriously.

"Hey Delta, is it in the FOM to keep lights on, no matter what?"

"No."

"Could you ask your guys to turn'em off when they might shine in another crews eyes."

From the side lines "SHUT UP AND PUT ON YOUR BIG BOY PANTS!"

@mshunter

I know you asked about Delta, but I figured I would throw out what my particular fleet type does at that larger Texas based airline...

Captains are given tons of discretion over the operation of the lights. However, we must illuminate the taxi light when moving or intending to move during night and low visibility conditions.

That being said, the very next bullet point in our manual says:

Extinguish the taxi light when stopped, to yield, or to avoid blinding others.

It is sort of a contradiction at times, but at least I have backup via my OM if I am moving at night and have the taxi light off to avoid blinding others.

I really tire of the "Delta pilots suck", "RJ pilots suck", "SWA sucks". Well, except for GoJet.
It happens.
1. Don't look at the lights. I know, it's instinctive but don't.
2. Close one eye. It protects your night vision.
3. If you still can't see activate the time machine. Come to a stop and apply the parking brake. If ATC gets POed tell them you will move when you are no longer blinded. If you are in the right seat and can't see tell the left seater "Excuse me your magnificence. I don't possess your godlike abilities and can't see squat." He may forgive your mortality and, in defenrence to them, come to a stop.
