Delta drivers?

I find it humorous when taxiing behind someone who blazes their strobes in my face while crossing a (sometimes closed, or otherwise unusable) runway but then leaves them off while in position waiting for a takeoff clearance on an active runway.

I'm not much of a "strobes while crossing" guy. I think just using your eyes to look is safer. There's also a way lower chance of forgetting to turn them off if you never turned them on. ;)

FOM says to turn them on. So ya know what? I turn them on. Even if the runway is closed. Just a habit. Not that an airplane has EVER landed on a closed runway.
Of course along with Derg I'm human and sometimes forget to turn them off until someone reminds me.
I guess it didn't kill you when I forgot since you're around to post.

Some of you need to take s chill pill and stop sweating the little stuff.
Someone with their lights on? We'll make this work. Rampers watching the game instead of parking me? I'm annoyed and will fill out an IOR, but hey, the sun will rise tomorrow. No need to lose your mind.
Headwind greater than forecast, change in arrival to DTW, fuel now an issue? Ok, time to start sweating a little.

I tried to gently remind the offender.

"Yeah, they're new" was the response.

So what? I've had more than one legacy carrier assume I was "new" as well as ATC from time to time. I get annoyed and drive on. At the end of the month my paycheck is the same- their insults don't affect it. Heck, last trip DTW ground got pissed because he told me one thing but ramp told me another. I stopped. People talked on the radio about how I was a "newbie", I yawned, asked them to figure it out, then moved on when it was clarified. They got to beat their chests and feel like Conan, I got the PAX and the airplane to the gate in one piece. No one is shooting at me, I've got A/C in the airplane, I'm not wearing chicken plate and when I press a button I get a cold Diet Coke. Life is good.

Turning into the ramp is not crossing a runway. A CRJ has laughable lights. Holding a 3 cell mag light through the window and shining it on the taxiway works better than our lights do. But looking down the barrel of a 717's landing/taxi ligths forces us to basically stop right where we are because it's blinding. Same with just about every other aircraft except a CRJ. Like I said, if you are face to face, and there is no need for it, please turn them of is all I'm asking. When they still allowed FO's to touch lights at my shop, I'd wait till we the last possible second to turn on strobes, and turn off lights when there was a situation where someone would have to look at ours. It's a courtesy because it totally sucks when someone does it to us.

I flew a Cirrus for a while. They only have Strobes. When taxing at night, I'd turn them off as to not kill someone else's night vision when appropriate. It's just being good to the other guys out there. And it's not that difficult to do. It's flipping a switch.

Turning into the ramp in ATL is when I want most to be lit up... that's far more potential for a collision there with the crazy tug and bus drivers whizzing by on that roadway. Typically I'll turn on the turnoff and wing inspection lights crossing the road into the ramp then go back to normal after crossing the roadway.

However, at my shop, on a line check, if you don't "turn on the light show" when you're crossing a runway, it's going to come up during the debrief.

"Those guys on the internet don't like Delta guys who do that so I won't. AAAAAAHM DA CAPTAIN!"

Generally I'll throw everything forward when crossing a runway (strobe to ON from AUTO) , everything forward but leave the nosewheel light in TAXI (line up and wait) and then TO when cleared for takeoff. After takeoff, the strobe light goes back to AUTO.

If I'm moving, the nose light will be in taxi. If I'm not moving, the nose light will be off. If I'm about to move, I'll put it in taxi.

But then, of course, I'm human and I get task saturated occasionally when ground gives out conflicting taxi instructions or I'm unfamiliar with the airport so I beg everyone's patience.

The L1011 I was jumpseating on got rammed by a tug and there is a particular competing airline whose tug will often cut off my jet on the center roadways in ATL.

My airline had a ramper drive into a spinning prop on a dark, rainy December night "several" years ago in ATL. It ended... Poorly.

And bloody well it should, damn it. I even turn on our "useless" wing lights when we're doing that.

Minding my own ship is a full time job, and in my spare time, it's my hobby.

(If I hear you key up and "remind" me, you might get a burst of maturity...and, well, lights. ;) )

Yup! If I'm taxiing, I have the landing lights extended as well... that way they are ready to go if someone needs a little extra nudging that we're there.

I've always liked the landing lights on the mad dog. It's like instant day light. The CRJ just illuminates stuff right before you're going to hit it.
I mean, I have good vision, but I don't get the hate for (at least on the Challenger) taxi lights. Most guys use the nose landing light, but that's just crazy bright. Maybe I just have good vision because I'm 12 though...

I just started extending my lights during taxi. Makes a lot of sense especially when you need fast laser beams to zap some RJ who didn't curtsey as I pass!

:sarcasm:
Do you drive around with a sign that says -

DANGER REGIONAL PILOTS

STAY BACK 100 METERS OR YOU WILL BE PLACED ON THE BOTTOM OF THE STACK

- as well? :sarcasm:

Oh, I'll get that contact for you. Thanks for the pithy reminder! :)
