Delta cuts SkyWest flying

Perhaps, but at today's wages and considering the cost of flight training, there aren't going to be as many people available. Then, perhaps wages can rise.

Must mean the economy is starting to get better, which I doubt! ;)

I remember in the 1980's when we were at rock bottom, I could go to BK, say, "Whopper with cheese, heavy pickles, heavy tomatoes, no onions, hold the mayo, add mustard" and it'd come out perfect.

Now, if I did that, they'd look at me like I was an •.

"But what happened to "have it YOUR way"? :) "
I worked at Burger King in the late 80s and early 90s. I made a heck of a Whopper, sir.

:D

EDIT: Side-thought: Do kids today even work at fast food places anymore?

Therein lies the basic problem with pilots. Someone offers them a job, and they feel that they should be grateful for it, as though they didn't really deserve it, but thanks for giving me the shot. That's bull#####. As a pilot, you have a skill, and that skill has value. Companies like Colgan need people with those skills, or they are out of business. They weren't doing anyone a favor. They hired him because they needed a pilot, and the wages they paid did not allow them to hire the cream-of-the-crop. No offense to anyone, and nor am I saying that 450 hour pilot can't do the job, but that 450 hour pilot is hardly the best person for the job. He is the best person available for the job

I'm still going to run around the lounge singing, "Dontchya wish yo FO was hot like me... Dontchya...DONTCHYA!" despite what you think. :sarcasm: :)

I didn't work at a fast food place when I was a kid. Probably because the closest fast food place was the next town over. It was operated completely by adults, no jobs left for the kids. Next fast food place, 30 miles away, college town where you competed with the college kids and the other local high school kids for jobs.

Jobs were hard to find for teenagers where I was from.

Why pray tell would you want to do that?

Yes, deregulation is a double edge sword.

But now as a result of deregulation you have more pilot jobs, higher salaries, more routes, and you're far more likely today to actually get hired with a major then during regulation.

And in today's industry not everyone will make it to a "legacy."

So imagine the odds under regulation!
\

I agree, except with higher salaries it goes both ways. The days of making 300K as a Legacy Capt are gone for now(still there for FDX, UPS and SW tho), so the top end salary is lower. But salaries for someone entering the industry up I think. Our training program instructor here at ASA had to pay for his hotel during training and was not paid until typed(Like Great Lakes now). And there's are a lot more jobs now then back then, so there's more opportunities to be an airline pilot. Getting on with a Legacy back then was probably like hitting the lottery.

Still trucking along at Southernjets. Now if I could just get them to call a few more of my JC_Babies, it'll be kool and the gang.
