Delta Connection Academy

Yep, looks like not much has changed.

kaiyo4u: Going to the FAA about scheduling and billing won't get you anywhere. The only thing the Feds are concerned about are reg violations and safety. Your issues are customer service related- your best bet would be to make a complaint to the Better Business Bureau.

They're not only customer service related, they are fraudulent. I have been documenting times when my instructor arrives for the flight lesson. I only need one copy of the revised schedule and the one posted online along with the slips from dispatch and my documentation to start some people looking. If you figure about $30.00 for every 30 minute brief charged for and you're only getting maybe 15 minutes for a post brief? It starts adding up... how many other students are getting short changed?

What's going in SFB? I hear Richard Morris is quitting? WTF?
Now they are threatening instructors that leave before the 800 will get blackballed from a job? Are they that hard up for flight instructors they have to resort to such tactics? Lies and deceit about aircraft/simulators owned and facilities NOT built? Sounds like a case of false advertising, who knows, probably get them on MAIL FRAUD. Either way, I'm sure the BBB would be interested. Is anyone so stupid to think the FAA actually cares about what goes on at DCA?

Hey Fabio, Tell that big nosed president usually when you FIRE people, you don't have them RETURN AS YOUR DPE's. Oh I forgot, He is only there so he can take his PAYCHECKS to the bank down at Merrit Island. He'll run it into the ground like every other jerk off that came before him!

This place has turned into a JOKE!

For those instructors at DCA that were threatened to be blackballed from ever getting hired at an airline........DO NOT BELIEVE THAT CRAP!!!!! DCA in thier on dilusional mind, think they are the sky gods of the airline industry. I will tell you this, the only thing hiring manangers care about is do you have the skills -People,Personality and IFR. Hell one of the hiring managers at COMAIR told a guy who works for DCA as an instructor that they won't contact DCA if he so chooses to leave early, just give them a 2 weeks notice, or resign his position.

What does that tell you, when the airline that owns this school tells them to go intercourse themselves. For all you DCA instructors that read these boards, TEST THE WATERS OUT THERE NOW, MANY OF YOU I AM SURE WILL SWIM!!! Express Jet is currently hiring like mad right now, Angela Barron is your contact person. Get your Multi time in, even if you gotta go sneak to get it (Buy it in block time) and get the hell out of there. You'll need 100hrs of multi to apply at Express Jet,(MINS are 600/100) and DO NOT give them permission to contact your current employer, the reprisial from DCA would be swift. But then again, its an open market for CFI's right now.

Blue Skies Dudes/Dudettes!!

It's sad to hear that still going on. When I was a student, as well as an instructor, we'd be told every evaluation as a student and instructor would be read by the airline. There were certain middle managers there that would make us believe that they held the keys to the airline kingdom, and could make or break your career. It was effective in keeping us in line....we bought it all!

As an FYI to anyone there: DCA has NO influence on your job interview with any regional. The regionals do not read your instructor monthly evals. They don't care about disciplinary actions (down in BCC, those were thought to have been "career enders"!).

DCA INSTRUCTORS PLEASE LISTEN TO CHRIS HE HAS BEEN THERE DONE THAT. WE KNOW YOU GUYS/GALS FREQUENT THIS BOARD. DON'T PAY ANY ATTENTION TO DCA. ITS' YOUR LIFE START LIVING IT!!!

FABIO, are you sure you want to be apart of a company that engages in tactics like this? Fabio, listen to me. If you decide to come to the regional world, iF ANYTHING IS LOOKED DOWN UPON, ITS' DCA MANAGEMENT. GET OUT OF THERE!!!!! WANNA COME TO EXPRESS JET? I WILL PERSONALLY MAKE THE PHONE CALL FOR YOU TO ANGELA OR EVEN WALK YOUR INFO IN. PLEASE FAB YOUR A GOOD GUY. DON'T GO DOWN WITH THOSE BASTAGES!!!

TO ALL INSTRUCTORS, CENTRAL AIR SOUTHWEST MULTI ENGINE TIME BUILDING IS 45.00 PER FLIGHT HOUR. EXPRESS JET DOES ACCEPT THE TIME. CALL 877-575-7711. THAT GOES FOR YOU STUDENTS TOO. EVERYONE GET YOUR MULTI RATING AT FALCON FLIGHT SANFORD, (WAY CHEAPER) THEN GO TO CENTRAL AIR.

Ahh DCA, you can always count on numerous complaints from the masses. Yes that place blows, we've established that. But for some it works. The only problem I have is what FatBastard mentioned about getting your time and leaving early. Yes the airlines are hiring lower time guys. But you should look at the success rate of those going there with those times. Just because you get hired doesn't mean you'll get through training. What big decisions have you made with only 500/100 multi? Build more time and gain more experience. Go instruct somewhere else if DCA sucks that much.

Soul Brotha my Brotha!!!

The person who determines who makes it through training is the person, iregardless of how many hours they have. Would a RJ transition course help?
Wouldn't hurt, here at Express Jet I see 500tt 100multi (internal mins) as well as 600tt 100multi make it through all the time. It all depends on you, and how bad you want it, or if your coming to Houston to have a good time. If for 2 months you can't make a sacrafice and not party and live eat drink and crap ERJ manuals and flows, well your flight home is already waiting.

Hey don't try to take Fabio away from us. He is one of the few honest people there that the students truly trust. The place do blow, but there are some good qualities about it.

I did a little math concerning the money charged for the "non-existent" pre-flight brief. For PPC alone it came to over $700.00. No, I didn't breeze through the lessons, I had to some of them more than once. The lessons planned were also longer than the time allotted for the aircraft. So they get to charge for more...
Now they are doing away with the escrow account I had set up... I was suspicious when I read the escrow contract and they are voiding it now that the company is out of bankruptcy...
Time to take figures to the BBB....

One of the reasons why they doing away with the escrow account is it's lack of popularity. When I started in Jan. only one person signed up for it.

I am sorry that it's not working out for you, it must be frustrating as all damnation.

I did do a little reseach. The FAA does require pre-flight briefs under part 141. The place it is specifically mentioned is for rec pilots. For the other classifications they refer to it as pre-flight planning. I am currently investigating the terminology to see if I can be a good lawyer and build a good argument for the FAA. (I've had training in reading law.)
I just don't like being charged for something that doesn't take 30 minutes when all that's being done is a post-brief and it usually lasts 5 to 10 minutes... and we are charged 30 minutes for briefs for every flight.
Especially when their standards manual requires it.
I timed the last two post-briefs... 10 minutes max.

By the way, it seems to be a group 2 habit. In asking other students, the group 1 students were getting their pre-flight briefings... Group 2, Not!

There I do agree with you, I am also in group two and my briefs are usually five to ten minutes sometimes less, and I almost always get charged .5. Although I only got charged .3 yesterday, for like 10 mins.

If they do SOME brief, no reg violation is taking place. There is no time limit on the brief...it can be as long or as short as the CFI needs it to be to cover the material. It could literally be 2 to 3 minutes and still be legal. When it comes to a pre-flight briefing, you should be getting something...even if it only involves a conversation on the way to the plane briefly discussing what will be covered on the lesson. Unless the CFI jumped into the plane with you and didn't say a word, he can legally claim he gave you some preflight briefing.

Keep in mind as well that you signed the 141 paper work after the flight stating that you did indeed receive the instruction as it was shown on the receipt/release/ticket/lesson sheet (or whatever they call it these days)...and this is what you were eventually billed for. An unsympathetic fed may turn the tables on you and ask why you signed legal documents stating that you received .5 brief when you only received .2? After he gets done hanging the CFI out to dry, he might decide to make an example out of you. The flight school it self will most likely get nothing more then a slap on the wrist, if even that. Be very careful complaining to the Feds...

I'm not saying this is all OK or defending their actions, just looking at it from a strictly legal standpoint. By all means complain about the improper billing and poor customer service to an organisation like the BBB.

Thanks for the perspective on that. Do you think I should challenge them when they put .5 on the ticket and get less?
