Delta Air Lines job fair vs internal rec

Fair enough. It is 2017 now and with more continuous hiring, changes to make things better/stronger is always good. :)

Edit: I removed the picture above if it's no longer true info, no point in someone getting the wrong impression.

No bro, leave it. It's seriously ok. Some people capture the unique opportunity in front of them, some simply want to emote. It's the internet.

Aren't some people seriously over analyzing and overthinking the process of getting hired at Delta? One would think this were some kind of application to be the crew of the next moon mission or something. Sheesh...

This. I'll be perfectly honest in that my target was a certain airline with world HQ in Chicago and a base in Denver. Lo and behold I get an email from SouthernJets to interview and I didn't think I was competitive. Ahem...Tier 1. Of course I was blown away, honored and studied my arse off for the interview. Very fortunate to have been selected but your point of over-analyzing is spot on.

Review your application, enhance your marketability and just be a good person/pilot/applicant. To those seeking the job good things will happen so keep the head up and pedal to the proverbial metal.

Makes sense to me. It's like the example I gave a few weeks ago of a few coworkers from my past who were finishing up their mil time, never flown heavies or any 121, never been to a career fair, don't know anyone of any importance at the airline, have no internal recs. Decide to throw in an application because flying for an airline would be "something to do" as a follow on career and paycheck [in terms of never having really considered or aspired to airline flying before this], correctly and thoroughly fill out the app, get a call for an interview, go to said interview, and get hired. None of these guys overthought the process......if they even thought about it much at all except for being thorough with the app and dotting i's / crossing t's, and presenting themselves well and giving an honest interview. But I never really saw them sweating the minutiae or trying to analyze it every way from Sunday.

Overanalysis can probably trip one up more than it can help them.

Incorrect, with certain qualifying factors.

An internal recommendation does not mean you're going to have your application looked at.

Performing well at a job fair WILL get your application looked at.

- Shut up @Cherokee_Cruiser, go color. :)

I believe there is a difference between an "internal recommendation" letter on your airlineapps account, and a HR form filled out and submitted to HR. Those are two different things and it was my understanding that the HR form specifically results in your application being looked at.

Is that not correct?

I appreciate the replies, but Derg your response was the only one that specifically addressed my question, and after reading it I am only more confused.

I have several letters of internal recommendations attached to my airline apps application. I also have had a Delta pilot submit "the HR form" to HR that I was told would result in my application being looked at.

If I understand the HR form correctly, then my application has already been looked at, and spending the resources to attend a job fair would not help me.

You can have an internal letter of recommendation but that doesn't necessarily mean that your application has been looked at, or will.

I'm not familiar with an "HR Form" — what did he specifically say?

I was told that its a form for recommending an applicant, made by delta, that a delta pilot can get, fill out, and turn into HR. Doing that will result in your application being looked at within 30 days. Several of my internal recs have spoke of it, so it isn't just one person telling me of this.

Like a Blue Dart, of sorts?

I guess there is enough confusion on this that I will just plan on attending. I want the job bad enough. I will ask them directly about this at the event and report back for everyone. Happy 2017 everyone.

He mean's the internal rec email process.

Haven't heard that term.

It's JetBlue's version of what you seem to be describing.

"This is a formal, internal sponsorship process administered through the Chief Pilot’s office in limited quantities each year. Known among JetBlue pilots as "throwing a Blue Dart," this program allows a JetBlue pilot in possession of a Blue Dart to nominate a candidate to enter the JetBlue First Officer interview process.

The JetBlue pilot holding the Blue Dart must personally know and attest to the intended recipient’s flying skills and character via written recommendation, and be available to the recipient as a mentor for his/her first six months as a crewmember......"

I have a 2 page PDF labeled Flying Ops, Pilot Recommendation Process. I guess I am a bit confused now too... If I am reading this thread correctly then the process detailed on that pdf is not current? It specifically states "score the application". I assumed this PDF was directly from DAL. Thanks for any insight. And yea, go to the fair, they are a blast!

There is definitely no HR Form.

I hope is doesn't sound like I'm picking on you but who said that? I literally have never heard that from my friend or any of his colleagues in pilot selection.

I believe he is talking about the automated email response when a Delta employee sends in an internal recommendation via email to Pilot Selection. In the email it states "Although we cannot guarantee that an invitation to interview will result, we can guarantee that we will review their application." That email has been sent out for at least a few years now.
