Delta Air Lines, HERE I COME!!!

My LOE is slated to be on Mar 22. Then a jumpseat observation trip and then 40 hours of OE. I should be able to get into eCrew in the next few days to put in my standing bid.

Now if I can hold that 76ER. ;)

Where did you end up going?

I always had endless respect for Dave up until a couple weeks ago... now he is trying to get me for standing up for the right thing in a situation. All they want is somebody's head- it doesn't matter what actually happened. It's been pretty sad to see how barely anyone in management really looks out for what is right. Nothing has been or will be put on my record because I'm getting out before they can try to do anything.

ANYHOO... I'm typing up my resignation letter right now. This feels GOOD!

Whoa! What happened? What were you standing up for the right thing that PNCL management gave you a hard time about?

Is everything ok? Not that it matters cause you're at Delta now, but I wanna know what happened? What's the story?

Dude, we gotta hang out if you're gonna be up in nyc. I live only 10 mins from LGA (barring traffic of course :) )!

Could be anything from a sick passenger to a gate return. They tend not to like it when the CA makes a good call, like not letting passengers sit on a de-ice pad for 4 hours waiting for the wx to clear up. Not sure what Denny's situation was, but I've had a CA called out for not wanting to sit and wait while the passengers were cramped in the back. On the flipside, I've also had CAs that would rather sit and wait since we're blocked out and getting paid.

Unfortunately, some in the industry want non-thinking automatons, which is sad.

Sit in the seat, follow the checklist, do whatever the loudest voice says regardless of practicality, do not question or discuss, rinse, repeat.

In all those cases, sounds like captain is trying to do what is right. But what repercussions can the captain face for something like this? Can you get a letter of reprimand, or something along those lines, on your record? Would that type of thing show up on a PRIA report?
I'm assuming that your union (ALPA) can step up and support you in a case like this?

Due to the proximity of the situation to now, I'll refrain from posting any details on here.

Basically, I refused to taxi an airplane b/c of safety concerns and the management was wanting to make an example of me in a union v. company issue. I was able to quit before we had the initial hearing, so nothing was able to be put on my record.

It's pretty sad when they go after a pilot with a perfect record with the company like that.

Hey bro, keep it off the internet for the time being. Write up your situation and call the DALPA office in ATL and ask for "contract admin". Ask to speak to "Troxel" and just give him a quick brief. He's voracious and loves this stuff and you have nothing to worry about once that guy's briefed. Tell him Doug Taylor from Jetcareers.com sent ya! :)

I heart that guy!

"It is amazing how childish mgmt and unions can be at times"

I don't know. Looks like Doug's union has a handle on it. I'd put money on it.

Absolutely.

I thought it was a "lost cause" because of the nature of what DCA was trying to pull. But once I got in touch with contract admin and my LEC rep, there's an entire culture of people that are ready to help you in all sorts of difficult circumstances.

People "poo poo" unions all the time, but considering what I went thru with the Doug Taylor verus DCA event, holy cow, they were THERE and were voraciously aggressive.

I stand corrected. I do have only experience with one union and have a dim view of them. It was a lot of pilots vs union and pilots vs mgmt. We were basically on our own and getting a return call from the union was darn near impossible.

I probably shouldn't hold their actions indicative what all unions do. I had forgot about your situation Doug. It is refreshing to hear the a union did its job and did it well.

Actually, the situation is completely over. But I'm sure you can understand that I don't want details all over the internet while I'm a brand spanking new hire. Pinnacle ALPA and one of the excellent compliance reps took care of the situation with amazing professionalism and competence from beginning to end. I was truly impressed with the skill of those guys and the absolute knowledge of what could be done as things progressed and escalated as more and more higher ups wanted their hand in the cookie jar.

I'm an ALPA man for life now! That's for sure!

He's getting the most glowing reccomendation for Delta ever written, I can tell you that much.

Troxel and I flew C-9's together in the Navy Reserve. Next time you talk to him call him "Zipperhead" and ask him about my Sicilian Driving skills... LOL!

He's a great dude!

Kevin

Will do. I owe that guy beer after how his performance versus DCA! :)

I think I can guess what they wanted.....

Peanuckle,

You just finished up your training right?

There's a guy that was a co-op in the department I'm in now back in 2000 that just finished up training, got the 88 out of ATL. We met for lunch yesterday, and he was talking about his 3 day jumpseat followed by his IOE. Really smart guy as well as being an Auburn grad. I'm not sure of the class size you were in, but I think he was probably in there with you.

He finished his checkride yesterday morning and is looking forward to getting started on the observation flights.

Anyway, drop me a PM if you want his name. Maybe we can meet for some lunch or something sometime when you're over at Virginia Ave.

Congrats on finishing training up.:nana2:

There are Auburn grads at Delta? No way! :) :sarcasm:

Once upon a time, it seemed like the formula was to graduate from Auburn, fly P-3's in the Navy and more or less show up for ground school.
