David Clark DC PRO-X, New Noise-Cancelling Aviation Headset

In the Lear, sometimes I will forget to turn the ANR on and won't notice until I try to listen to music. The PNR qualities of most ANR headsets will be fine in quiet jet equipment.

I am looking for feedback on this headset in the Q400 or other similar aircraft. I figure they have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, but it would be nice to see a few reviews first!

Tried a pair of the DC PRO-X on in the pilot shop today. I was impressed. Definitely dont look nor feel like your classic DC's. They are surprisingly small, lightweight, and comfortable. There is definitely zero passive protection from these with the soft and low force on-the-ear style. There was no noise but turning on the ANR in the store blocked out the white noise noticeably, though I could hear people talking in the next room at pretty much normal volume.

Remember "noise canceling" really should mean frequency canceling. It produces a sound that's 180deg out of phase to the frequency being canceled. Even the. It only cancels a certain range of frequencies. Now if you're just trying to explain the lack of passive attenuation then my apologies.

Anybody else care to review this headset?

I am currently flying the Q400 with it. It does a fair job, although I don't have anything to compare it to right now... But I do notice some wind noise through them. My biggest complaint is they seem to produce a lot of •e noise or static. They also seem to come on at full volume every time I power them up. That means I have to fumble around the cockpit each flight just to turn them down to help the static or white noise not be so annoying.

I am considering trying a set of bose or the new lightspeed or something. My big concern is that I want comfort as I will be flying 4 or 5 legs each day. I also need to have ANR.... So I am open to suggestions for headsets.

That does not sound like normal operation. The headset should defiantly remember your last volume level setting on power up. You might want to talk to someone at DC on the phone to discuss your issues.

Anybody know how this headset would hold up in a 402?

Right now with my passive, part of my before takeoff flow is to crank the COMM1, just so I can hear tower send me off to departure.

I also Defy my headset to not remember my last volume setting when I shut it down. Glad to here I'm knot the only won!

Sincerely,
Your friendly neighborhood spelling nazi (Note the lowercase "n." My spell check wants to change it to uppercase, which to me would indicate that I am a member of the National Socialist party who is particularly interested in spelling, which I am decidedly not.. The intent is to imply a certain level of authoritarianism about spelling.)

Sorry, automagically typing from my phone isn't great for correct spelling sometimes.

I have a Bose A20 on the way... I am going to try it on my trip that starts tomorrow to compare the two. The DC would be better if I started at a mid level volume, as it would quiet down the static effect it gives off during ANR use. That is a major fault in my book. It is a royal pain to worry about in the 121 environment when there already isn't enough time to do everything in between flights.

Are you saying that you want your headset to reset to half volume at all power ups no matter the state on shutdown (as an alternative to the default functionality)? You could always set your headset to half volume and leave it there, since it should remember this setting on the next power up. I again want to iterate that if your headset does not remember the last volume setting this is a broken unit and you should alert DC. You could also have them look into your static you are hearing to see if they can replicate the problem.

What do you mean not enough time to do everything in the 121 environment? I find myself 10 minutes into the turn going "Now what?" (INIT UPLINK is awesome!). I've been curious about these, too. The Airbus is fairly quiet, but it can get loud at times, especially our older ones.

Any recent pireps on this headset? Tried one on today, I was impressed.
Not sure of you definition of "recent. " I haven't changed my mind since the one I wrote less than two months ago.

Biggest issue? I still can't believe something that small and lightweight works that well.

Is there anyone who has also used a Bose QC-2 with a uflymic that make a comparison between the two? Especially in a jet with a lot of wind noise? (Currently flying a G-100 that is unbelievably loud below about FL220 and going 340+ knots).

Thanks!

Just go slower down low.. Problem solved!! A guy I know has the clarity aloft and they work great, I am seriously pondering getting them..

Slower? Nah... just need an airplane that isn't a relic. How that turd even goes that fast is beyond me.

I've heard great things about the CA. If you get them, let me know how you like 'em. My Bose are dying quickly.

P.S.- I'm in ASE all weekend and there are dozens of "real" G's on the ramp... you aren't here by any chance are you??
